Crossword/Sudoku Puzzle

Postby offsky » Mon Apr 15, 2019 7:50 pm UTC

Here is a double puzzle that people here may enjoy. You solve both the crossword and sudoku in the usual way and then combine them to solve the meta-puzzle.

Like so?
Spoiler:

This puzzle made me remember how much I despise crossword clues. I mean...
Spoiler:
  • I figured CROC was gonna be his actual name, TOCK
  • LINE is just... bad. "long sentence"? really? Who the hell uses "line" to mean "long sentence"
  • What's up with some of them having question marks at the end, and some of them not?
  • REOS is just terrible. Not only is "Speedwagon" in the band's name one word, you don't pluralize things like that. It's like giving a clue "Alvins bands" for the answer CHIPMUNKSS
  • to its credit, though, I really liked ESCAPEKEY and TAN
On a related note, an incorrect 26 Across got me a puzzle solution of FART STICK, so there's that.

This is a really cool idea, though. I kinda wish the two puzzles could play into each other more rather than just solving them separately.

Code: Select all

:Clrhome
:while 1
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16),randInt(0,9))
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16)," ")
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16)," ")
:End

It's not "LINE". It's...
Spoiler:
"LIFE" as in a life sentence

Alright, I admit that that makes both that and its horizontal partner less stupid. I'm still miffed that both can be seen as fitting.

Code: Select all

:Clrhome
:while 1
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16),randInt(0,9))
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16)," ")
:Output(randInt(1,8),randInt(1,16)," ")
:End

The question mark at the end of the clues means that there's a play on words or a pun or something. And to your other complaint about Speed Wagon being two words, this is because it's not referring to the famous band, but the old time automobile. And the pluralization makes sense when you think of it this way.
