Android: Disable fingerprint unlock for phone, but keep fingerprints on record

Postby Zohar » Mon Jan 30, 2017 7:34 pm UTC

Fingerprint recognition is really useful on my phone. I especially like it for my password manager, since my master password is very long. However, I would prefer not to unlock my phone using my fingerprint, but use a pattern/code instead.

However, on android, if I cancel fingerprint unlock, it basically deletes all the fingerprints on my phone, and I can't use my fingerprint for anything.

Any ideas on how I could do this? I have a Nexus 5X running Android 7.1.1

how does having fingerprint unlock enabled prevent you from using a pattern/code to unlock the phone?

Code: Select all

factorial product enumFromTo 1
isPrime n
factorial (1) `mod== 1

It doesn't. But cops are allowed to force you to put your finger on the fingerprint reader to unlock your phone, but can't legally force you to provide your unlock code.

Not sure if that's possible... it looks like the Nexus automatically grants unlock to any prints that you store, which seems dumb...

Dunno... maybe there are some third party locking apps that require the PIN independent of any fingerprint scan? If so, you might be able to use one to force a PIN even if the fingerprint is used.
