A single man has declared an island, that he essentially has no personal legal claim to as from being the only resident, a crown dependency and thus no part of the U.K. He's also claiming his newly found country has rights to North Sea oil drilling profits. It's all on the basis of some loop-hole or legal happening in the 15th century. All that, and he calls himself "Captain Calamity." What do you think? A crazy old man trying to leave his mark, or is he justified in his claims? How does U.K. and the E.U. respond? Allowing such a claim may set a precedent, and the lord knows what other legal discrepancies can be dug up concerning territories. Do they just leave the 65 year old man and see what happens? Would you join him on this god forsaken rock based on his declared ideas?

Just for a laugh - a guy did the same thing with a farm in Western Australia in the 70s - it's under Principality of Hutt River in Wikipedia. It's kind of a standing joke...

Not to mention KickassiaMolossia in the US, along with a number of other similarly declared micronations. I suspect about half of all micronations are people declaring their own property sovereign land. Thankfully most of them don't suffer the same fate as Petoria.
