It took me 5 runs to go from <14:00 to <13:00. It has taken me 3 runs to go from 12:58 to 12:44. Suffice to say: bleh. (I mean, I knew the slowdown was going to happen eventually - I was just hoping to fend it off for another run or five.)

Interestingly, my cardio seems to be outpacing my muscular fitness at this distance/speed. My last few runs have seen my legs burning and wobbly and reluctant to fire over the last quarter mile, when I speed things up, while my breathing stays pretty solid throughout. This has never happened before, that I can remember.

Does this mean I need to do more endurance work (i.e. distance) or higher intensity (lifting/sprinting)?

It went fine. It wasn't an organized half marathon. My knees hurt like hell the first eight miles but then suddenly were fine so I figured I'd run another 2 miles, which turned into a little over five miles. I both love and hate runs like that, since it would be nice to feel invincible in the beginning of the run, too.

The eight on Saturday sucked terribly. It was supposed to be 10 and was the first time in ages I've stopped a run before I intended to finish. I suspect my pain had a lot to do with my taking my Good Friday fast rather more seriously than technically I had to. I tried to replenish my glycogen stores before I ran Saturday, but doing the math and considering just how hard I crashed and the aching hunger I had on the drive home, I suspect my attempts were woefully inadequate.

Man, between getting sick and having a number of research/writing assignments, I have had such little opportunity to run. I finally decided that I'd probably work more efficiently if I took a bit of a break and got a run in. I only made it five miles in before getting into a coughing fit, then I moved to the elliptical for three miles. It did work, though. I finally got "over the hump" with this appellate brief, though because it took so long, I will probably be pulling an all nighter tonight. /dear diary

Over the last two weeks or so:

Starting running again... very slowly, although progressing fast in terms of how easy it feels. I'll probably end up training to run a half-marathon this fall, since I think having a goal will probably make me stick with it this time (as opposed to the last few times I started running, when I've given up after like a week or so). I think increasing distances a bit more gradually will probably help too.
