Hey ... I actually like Vista ...
Lols ... I found out many of the people who complain are people who don't have new computers ...
I assure you that my boot time with Vista is faster than my boot time with XP (Not on a fresh install of course ... but with all my installed programs)

Nice composite, but of course the grass shouldn't be on top of the roof. How to combine the two and maintain the correct scales? Hmmm... answers on a postcard.

That's the front of the postcard.
The back of the postcard says:
Why shouldn't the grass be on the roof?
Generation Y. I don't remember the First Gulf War, but do remember floppy disks.

Yeah, yeah, OK. But according to the buildings shown in the first picture, the grass should be at ground level, otherwise it makes the log scale wrong. Ergo the grass is at ground level.
Happy now?

As an Arts Major, I am very proud of the fact that I "get" almost all of the references in these comics.

I'm only posting here because it displeases me when the top thread in the "Individual XKCD Comic Threads" topic is not the most recent comic.
Sad.. isn't it...

Just so long as it is followed by a "length" comic. And maybe a "width" one also.
Width is breadth. Height and depth aren't the same, but you could have breadth and girth.

This could be a building in a place with a lower ground level than the buildings shown in "Height"

Or Randall could live in a basement apartment.

You are right. But I'm sure that was not the intention

Wait, how would that work on a log scale?

@wolfticket: lol, I made exactly the same image when the comic came out, but didn't get around to posting it. In fact I was wondering if I did post it and just forgot when I saw that one.
I wonder if Randell got his idea from this other "Depth" image:

Fun Fact: I looked at Google Trends for "Brian Green(e)" directly after this comic and there was a very large and recent spike.

It always reminded me of this.
But I was wondering...are there other examples of this in art and science? When I google 'vertical log scale' i dont get similar images. I want to see others like this.

The Astronomy Picture of the Day a few days back has an awesome, interactive flash widget illustrating these concepts, from the very smallest to the very largest. Thanks to this comic, I expected to see various silliness at either end ... there wasn't, but it's pretty neat all the same:

Here's just one small part of it:
