subscribing to a topic or forum

Postby alshain » Sun Feb 07, 2010 4:44 am UTC

So I have subscribed to some topics and a forum. How do I know when there are new messages in those topics or forums and how can I only view the new messages in the said topics and forums?

If you subscribe to a topic/forum, you should get emails whenever a new post/topic is made. If you're not getting them, check your preferences... make sure Email is selected for "Notification method" in here (the Jabber option doesn't seem to be working at present) and check your email address here.
While no one overhear you quickly tell me not cow cow.

Thank you. BTW, is that the best way to view this forum? Or should I just bookmark forums/topics and visit them regularly?

The best way I've found is to make a (thoughtful, contributing) post to a thread, then check the "View your posts" link whenever you visit. That will quite handily show you the threads you've posted to, with the most recent update listed first.

All new posts show up (most recent first) under the "View new posts", across all boards. That's handy once you've checked all the threads you've participated in. Those are the two features I use all the time. (I used to use "View active topics" all the time when it was still working. Alas, it has expired and gone to the great bitbucket in the sky. :( )

If you have subscribed to some specific topics or forums, though, you can see a list of them on your manage subscriptions page through the User Control Panel.

And how do you subscribe to a thread?
I'm not disorganized. My room has a high entropy.

At the very bottom of the page (in prosilver/prosilver_left, anyway), you should see "Board Index" next to "Subscribe Topic" and "Bookmark Topic."
