This is a joke, right? Someone tell me this is a joke. They'll show up and actually hand out, like, cotton candy, or something. Right? Right?

Well I always wonder how these people deal with the whole "god is merciful", "Show the other cheek" and "Throw the first stone" parts of the bible.

By ignoring them, like any other part of the bible that might cause them to be good people.

you're implying that 50 shekels to her dad and marrying the victim is not appropriate punishment for rape?
that one is my pet argument against literalism.

my point exactly

but in fairness, fifty shekels would be worth a lot now, to coin collectors and museums. so maybe it does reflect a suitable penalty for rape?
nononono. NO!

They're pretty blatantly ignoring this part, too:

Luke 13:1-5 [NIV] wrote:1Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

Actually, the shekel is still used in Israel, and shekel 50 is only about twelve dollars.

This guy... is an unbelievable asshole. I can't believe there are still people like this in the 21st century.

With any luck, maybe it'll turn out like the biker security at Altamont...
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

This man feeds on attention. Why are we helping him by talking more about him here?

That said, I think it would be fun to follow him everywhere he goes with a big poster that says something like "Never mind: God doesn't exist"

"God Hates Assholes Who Try To Tell Other People WHat God Hates"

...or will that not fit? I think subtlety won't work with these people.
