I am pretty sure it is just stupid kids trying to get the day out so they can smoke all day. It is 4/20 on Friday.

Yeah, I was surprised the article failed to mention that.

Well of course they wouldn't. We are misery-mongers. And the VT shooting just happened, so shit like this is going to be spread all over. It's ridiculous to think that someone's going to bomb Summerville. We got loads of threats when I was in school there and nothing ever happened. I would take the day off, though, if I were any of the kids attending.

I would, too, mainly because one should skip high school at every opportunity.

What the fuck is with the loser kids who are all wanting to go, even though their parents actually want them to have the day off. What is wrong with you, Americans?!

There's a fine line between "If I don't go to school the terrorists win" and "I'm a square." The kids that go to school on Friday are crossing that line.

Rachel, do they have Senior Skip Day (or "Senior Ditch Day" or whatever) in SC? I know it's a tradition at my school, and it's supposed to be Friday this year. It only just hit me now upon seeing this topic that the day is 4/20; it's probably not coincidence.

They're totally getting off school to go smoke pot.

Our senior skip day is next Friday, the 27?, and the Monday after Prom (May 7). Unfortunately, I have an AP test that Monday and therefore cannot skip. *sigh*

Seriously, though, that article is a bit stupid. Way to not point out the obvious. ><

Yeah, we've got Senior Skip Day, although a lot of seniors don't skip because administration and teachers all do attendance and shit. Myself, I skipped class enough that I didn't need a silly senior skip day. Every day was senior skip day for me, at least for one period.

Huh, so it's not just a CHHS or North Carolina thing. Is your senior skip day on Friday, or sometime else?

I can't skip at all this semester. My school has this nifty policy: If you're a senior, and during the second semester in a certain class you have a C average or better and no unexcused absences, you don't have to take the final exam in that class.

We had a senior skip day at my school. I think it was the second to last friday of the school year. Most of the seniors would head of to Cedar Point or skip and chill with friends. Half of the juniors would skip too.

I was the prick that actually went to school since by some miracle I had perfect attendance senior year and didn't want t ruin it. I got a free BBQ/party thing during school along with a perfect attendance award. For two of my classes i was one of the only three people in the class. The teacher didn't want to cover anything so we just broke out a deck of cards and played euchre those hours.

I think they're making too big a deal out of this. Maybe things are different there, but my school's had two bomb threats this year, and they're obviously fake.

I got an e-mail today saying there was a bomb threat at the University of Louisville at 10:45 this morning. I think that is actually the first time its happened in the 3 years i've been here. Weird.

Yeah, I guess Kalamazoo Valley Community College is closed until Monday because, according to the news article, there was a chatlog where one person sad a "bad joke" that someone else took seriously and reported as a bomb threat.

I see it as more of AIM-speak. There's a very significant difference between the "ultimate forms", if you will, of each...

Even what warriorness posted isn't really genuine 1337, which is often mistaken for AIM speak. 1337 has nothing to do with abbreviations, and was originally a hacker cypher to get around the word filters and searches of the early internet.

Well, as far as I know, L3375P34K started out as stuff such as typing "p0rn" instead of "porn", then became a bit more sophisticated. According to me, it's any form of typing in which a bunch of letters are replaced with similar-looking numbers/symbols/punctuation (even without the intention of bypassing filters), whereas AIM-speak is a form of typing that makes an effort to minimize the number of keystrokes needed to type anything...

...even though, for me at least, it takes more time to think of how to AIMify a certain word than it would to type correctly in the first place. I can't see how that would possibly be useful except in a scenario where you could only, say, press one key every minute (I dunno, a really bad hunt-and-peck typer?). And I've gone off on a tangent again, so I'm just gonna end this post here.

and now things like "nerdpr0n.com" will actually get you to porn sites.

It was more things like "h4x" and "w4r3z" than pornography.
