1706: "Genetic Testing"

Alt-text: Plus, now I know that I have risk factors for elbow dysplasia, heartworm, parvo, and mange.

This probably wasn't intended to be a commentary on otherkin, but I can't help thinking that it is.

Do people who think they are animals trapped in human bodies or whatever count as otherkin? I thought otherkin was people who think they're elves or vampires or fairies or dragons, and real-animal-in-human-body people were just furries (but not vice versa, not all furries are that).

Nah, otherkin are people who believe they are reincarnations of anything that is not human. Can be as fanciful as elves, but simply saying 'I have the soul of a tortoise' qualifies.
G = T x M
T= M
G = (M) x M = M2
M = √E
G = (√E)2
G = E

Otherkin just means having a non-human soul. It doesn't necessarily have to be due to a reincarnation. Mother nature can simply have put the wrong soul into a body by mistake. Nobody is perfect. ;3

Why that? O.o

Yes.

Pfhorrest wrote:I thought otherkin was people who think they're elves or vampires or fairies or dragons,

Some might, but I think they're probably in the minority, while otherkin who identify as animals are in the majority. (But I could easily be wrong, I'm far, far from being an authority, or even particularly knowledgeable, on the subject.)

Pfhorrest wrote:and real-animal-in-human-body people were just furries (but not vice versa, not all furries are that).

No, furries are just people who get a kick out of dressing up in animal and anthromorph costumes. (Anthromorphs being something part-way between animals and humans. Think cartoon characters.)

Basic difference:
Otherkin identify as non-human but don't necessarily dress-up in costumes,
Furries dress-up in costumes but don't necessarily identify as non-human.

Of course, some people can be both otherkin and furries at the same time.

Wasn't "Furry Otherkin" a character in a book by J.R.R Lovecraft?

I sent them a sample, thinking they would tell me which birds I'm descended from.

I got:
30% Polypropylene
70% Polybutadiene

What about someone who's not so much a cat trapped in a human body as a cat who took over a human body because opposable thumbs, valid photo ID and a longer average lifespan will be useful in the quest for total world domination (and catnip)?

I don't.

Though they won't welcome me, either; whichever one occupies my head will wind up quite allergic to all his friends. I'll be one of the slaves sent to work the clay mines, and silently plot rebellion based on spray bottles and laser pointers...

More than four out of five furries do not have a fursuit.

The only common aspect of "being a furry" that is widely agreed upon by furries seems to be interest in anthropomorphic animals. The definitions of "interest" and "anthropomorphic" alone are sources of great contention and confusion.
