1190: "Time": MAYBE SOMEMOLPY MEMEIFIED A PREBLITZED BICYCLE?

balthasar_s wrote:Of course after seeing this I ran to automeme to see it there, only to find it preabandoned but it was not there yet.

Yep, it's not "there" yet from the vantage point of people out on the Internet. I edit my local memes file, usually on my school laptop, after which it needs to get through manually-iniated backup-and-sync operations to travel (through two steps) to the machine that actually posts stuff to the Internet.

In other news, remember Bochum? Of course you do. At Jahrhunderthalle there were some big abstract sculptures, including a human figure and a four-legged molpy in a, uhh… possibly compromising position. I think sustainability is an overall theme. Now it has gone to Paris and was turned down by the Louvre for being too explicit. This isn't really RELATED to anything, except Bochum.

There's also another slope we're on:
You probably noticed that we have to wait more time for each ong.
That is because these are the days when I don't have time for almost anything and this includes making new frames.
But soon, after I move to my new home things should be better again.

Also, yes, I'm aware of the process which makes your computers live the same world, as it was described by you before.
But I ran to see it anyway.

Actually, there isn't too much to add.
In your ott-snowclones.txt file (or whatever its name is, if you changed that), make the following changes:

Code: Select all

# In the places table (starts with "multiclass place [-name, -pr-in ...")
# add the following line:
THE PREABANDONED BUILDING  | IN | INTO  | A

# In the main memes listing (starts at "-----  MEMES -----") add the following:

# balthasar_s, BSTA frame 169 character kxa "Maybe someone built a preabandoned building?"
#-MAYBE SOMEONE BUILT A PREABANDONED BUILDING?
[place-name][]MAYBE [SOMEONE@0.5, SOMEMOLPY] [BUILT@0.3, verb-tr-past] [$0/-art] [$0/remove-the/]?
MAYBE [SOMEONE@0.5, SOMEMOLPY] [BUILT@0.3, verb-tr-past] A PRE[verb-tr-past] [noun]?

That's it, your automeme now knows about the preabandoned building as a place, and two snowclones based on that line by kxa.

Last QONG of October, being the climactic conclusion of the Oumen saga.

Next month begins the final stretch of this phase of writing, the Virtuality saga that will finally conclude the entire Chronicles. Time to ketchup is now if you want to wait for it along with me next month. If you haven't been reading at all yet, you're like 50,000 words behind already.

I've got some condiment to consume myself...I can understand some of what Blitzers go through! Dunno if I can ketchup in Time, but that's what Quest is for. I've been reading in narrative mode but haven't gone far enough to speak intelligently on the space battle question you asked in the ago dix. Caught up I still won't be able to speak intelligently, but that won't stop me. :)

How about adding Redundancy as an alternative for R, without removing Redundant?<snip>
eta iF WE NEED AN ALTERNATIVE j WORD, THERE'S ALWAYS jUNEBUG :d

mrob27 wrote:
lmjb1964 wrote:mrob, this is steakish and brilliant. Huh, not many OTTish words starting with J, are there?

Yeah, the most common non-dictionary words in the OTT starting with J are things that really aren't OTT words: JS (352 times), jpeg (134 times), json (96 times). The first legitimate OTT word is JabberWalky, the name of a community-written OTTification of Dodgson's Jabberwocky.
I think it's better than Journey. It fulfills the criteria of distinctiveness and rarity (in a phonetic alphabet, when you're trying to be understood and not confusing, each of the 26 words should be easy to distinguish from the other 25; and I think it's useful for them all to be things that won't be used too often on their own).

G really should grapevine and M molpy.

I assume you do realise that's the opposite of what HES suggested.

Well, yes, but HES's version was sort of not in the same vein, i.e., would not really be helpful as a phonetic alphabet. Not to say that it isn't molpish, though.

About two weeks ago, I flew home to Pittsburgh. Hospice told us that my father might have hours, or he might have days. He had a few days, which meant that I was able to spend some time with him. His mind was brilliant and his humor sharp to the very end, but the Parkinson's made the physical part of living just too difficult. Tomorrow it will be two weeks already that he passed. How is that possible? I just wish I had more Time with him. I guess that's always the wish, isn't it?

Thank you for being here, and for listening.

I'm so sorry for your loss JuneBug, but I'm really glad that you got to spend a few days with him at the end, and had had all the rest of the time you had with him when you had it. Time is a precious gift, and while you can do anything with it, you can't do everything. We are all but droplets unto the sea, yet together we make up the sea. May his droplets always be with you as a gentle mist.

And I'm back. Mustard is as mustard does, and I've reached a point where I no longer have anything left to do Outside. All I have left is waiting, and spending eight hours a day at work. I'm waiting until next year so I'll have enough money to buy a car. I'm waiting until next month to have somewhere to move my stuff. I'm waiting until who knows when for my landlord to get the electricity back on. I'm waiting until next summer to see my friends again. I'm waiting until next week in the hopes that someone I'm subscribed to on Youtube will put out a new video. I'm waiting until Monday for work to start, so I can wait until Friday for work to end. I'm just letting the clock run.

Fortunately, I have a lot of practice in Waiting.

Thanks for the kind words and hugs.

What is that round thing on the door? Is it like a bank vault door, with a big handle to open it? Maybe what's on the wall is a security keypad of some sort.

I just heard a little verse, which seems appropiate in this thread:

There was a young man

And haikus confused.

Reminds me of a limerick I heard:

There was an old man
From Peru, whose lim'ricks all
Look'd like haiku. He

Said with a laugh "I
Cut them in half, the pay is
Much better for two."

Love these (and svenman's too.) Who knew that a limerick was two haikus put together? Well, the old man from Peru did, I guess.

Happy homecoming to your new home, balthasar!

I did it once before, I suppose I could do it again. The problem is that it's a wipend, and wipends are actually the time that I'm generally less available. [EDIT: eh I'll make it work somehow. I just need a good idea. Something OTCish but probably not an Idle/Incremental. And maybe something less obvious.]

Basementposting from the top of 2612...

I'm in the process of moving from the US east coast to the US west coast. Tuesday, shortly after leaving home I saw a truck that looked a lot like this:

Image

Then last night as I was leaving a rest area in Missouri, I saw a couple small brown signs each with a short phrase on it, with the last saying Burma Shave... Sadly I wasn't paying enough attention to the first few too remember what they all said, since I wasn't expecting it as I'd never seen it before. Is it a Route 66 thing?

In any case, I miss this wowterful place and hope to pop back in soon!

Does the basement ever end?

Wishing you molpish travels! Let me know when you get to the area. And I had no idea there were still Burma Shave signs. Sounds like the ones you saw are a reproduction. They were all over the US at one point (before my time):

Probably, but my google-fu isn't strong enough. I do remember seeing a set on a back road in the Northwest once, probably one of the very last "real" ones. No idea now what that one said, but my grandfather had a book of them that had

If you don't know

Whose signs these are

You haven't driven

Very far

Burma Shave

Hope you continue to see interesting things, but that your drive stays otherwise uninteresting.

While I fear this particular lifemustard will take a long time to recover from due to its high levels of mustardishness, there are molpish things afoot to help distract me... I'm just gonna repost this old ottification becauuuuse...
