9 Players needed (can be extended to 13 if interest is very high)
Trapped in a haunted mansion you find the corpse of Sir Chumley Smythe (Human, Ghost killed night 0)

The game will consist of 2 or 3 Mafia and some number of the following roles (max one ghost role) (Mafia number determined by number/type of roles for balance)

Human Roles
Seminarian (Doctor) - Can lay a protective ward outside the room of one target each night, if that player is targeted by the ghosts, the ward prevents the kill
Psychic (watcher) - Sleeps in a trance and their minds eye focuses on a players room sees who visits or affects that player but not what they get up to in the room
Sèvitè (Roleblocker) - Can create a spell that, when blown under a targets door, paralyses them preventing them taking any active night actions
Aura Reader (Sane Cop) - Can spend time in the night focussed on the aura of another player from outside the target's room, will tell them if they are human or ghost.
Private Investigator (tracker) - Stealthily follows one player to see who they visit at night

Ghost Roles
Souleater (Godfather) - This ghost ate the soul of Sir Chumley Smythe and so the Aura Reader sees his aura, reports as a human
Ghoul (Ninja) - This Ghost is sneaky and dark and can slip out undetected, Psychic and P.I will see not see them target
Bhut (Strongman) - This indian spirit is not cursed like other ghosts and so cannot be warded with the Seminarian's rites nor paralysed by the Sèvitè.

If I get less than 9 interested there is a mini version of this set up but the balance is a little wonky.

[EDIT]: For clarification, the watcher can detect all other roles the Tracker can detect all roles EXCEPT the watcher. Realised that as I'd originally written it, the tracker and watcher got sod all of humans.
Also, incase this is not normal here, Plurality voting system, The plurality of votes at the end of the day will lynch every day.

Edit to add
Tie votes will be determined initially by a 24 hr extension and then by a coinflip

So, we have a basically open setup, but we don't know the precise details of what roles we have. For the most part, these shouldn't claim, unless they have fairly certain information that will take down a ghost (or protect a townie). Which means that we just have to start discussion. Which I am pretty bad at doing.

There seems to have either been a change in the rules, or a major extra piece of information. Before there was maximum one ghost with powers, now there is exactly one without powers. Which might well mean that we have exactly two ghosts. Or I'm reading too much into the wording.

Boding well for this game that was in fact a cock up. There is no change in the rules there is only one ghost with a power role, opening post edited to reflect that.

Okay, just to confirm, Saturday will take as lasting 12 hours and Sunday will take as lasting 12 hours, so they together last 24 instead of 48 hours, like is custom around here, right? Most people don't visit on weekends so it helps to have some default-autoextension for weekends.

With that out of the way...

Hello SirGabriel! Is this your first game of mafia? I'd suggest reading some other games to see how things are done, and note that we could actually vote No Lynch, so that night falls immediately, without anybody dying.

The thing is, No Lynch is actually a terrible strategy, as is lynching as random, what we have to do is talk and talk and talk, and then we figure out from what people said, who is more likely to be a ghost, and we lynch them, so by D2 we have all the discussion of D1 to analyze, and examine who voted who, and all that.

And now you may ask "but what do we talk about?" well, that's easy, we're just talking now :wink:

Good advice. About the talking, I mean. Let's just talk about the game. And yes, it's true that most veteran players will tell you that voting No Lynch is a bad idea unless there are special circumstances.

If there are 3 ghosts we better hope we have both protection roles because a mislynch plus a successful NK would put us at LYLO. Investigative roles wouldn't even do much good if we got to LYLO that quickly. Speaking of which
Will Lynch-or-Lose and/or Mislynch-and-Lose situations be publicly announced?
If so we at least have a chance of knowing the setup by tomorrow, which would put us on level with the scum, who already know the (outline of the) setup since they know how many of them there are.
By the way, SirGabriel having Vytron's old avatar is going to be really confusing for me at first. Anyway, welcome to forum mafia! Your question about what we do D1 sounds like you usually play with a N0 where a player dies before the game even starts. Is that the case?

Going to ignore whether or not that was actually no-lynch discussion, since the frivolity level in the thread is kind of high right now. Putting in another agreement that Vyt- er SirGabriel's and pat- er Vytron's avatars are going to be confusing until gotten used to. Minestrone's speculation about setup is definitely something for concern, although I do think three ghosts would be a bit unbalanced (while also giving us a 1/3 chance of lynching a ghost at random, hopefully we will do better).

I don't recall games where I've played with NU and he was town, but on the ones where he was scum he sounded like this. Specially, his comment "Good advice" seems like his usual tactic of befriending town players to convince them that he's town.

Not that I want him lynched today for that or anything, it's still the best thing I got currently, and will probably switch to someone else if they say something actually damning.

But if NU IS mafia then I'll go all "I TOLD YOU!"

If you don't remember them sounding differently as town, how do you know that's not just what they do all the time? On the other hand, I guess a gut feeling's a gut feeling, and of course there's still plenty of time to get more concrete evidence.

Okay. here's a post of New User as town, his first post on a game:

Strategy 2) We all agree to have at least two players per room. That way, there must be Room Chat for each room, and since I doubt there are four scum players (that would put us at four vs. six which is unbalanced), then there will be at least one room without any scum players.

I think Strategy 1 is better but this is open to discussion. What does everyone else think?

No, I'm pretty sure killing at random is better than doing nothing. And based on the evidence Vytron has presented, killing New User sounds at least slightly better than killing at random. So we are going to kill someone today, we just haven't decided who.
