Re: Language practice threads [new: Korean]
Would it be a bad idea to make an English practice thread? I'm probably not the only non-native speaker who would find a thread where you can ask minor questions and your writing gets (is?) corrected useful, but I'm unsure why there isn't already one.

Okay, unless anyone has objections, I'm going to make that thread later.

Would anybody be interested in a Novial thread? Not particularly a fan of auxlangs, but I think it's a pretty language.
Re: Language practice threads [new: Korean]
Can we write on threads that had no new posts since May 2011, for example?

There is no rule against necroing, just one that suggests that you only necro threads if you have something useful to add.
I would say necroing language practice threads is always okay.

Not sure whether or not there's interest, but I started up an Icelandic practice thread. Tala íslensku við mig!

I'd gladly watch... my croatian is a bit rusty, about 30 years behind the current, and I'd like a refresh cycle. Pozdrav susjedu od komšije

I'm trying to teach myself some rudimentary Polish, it's going very slow so far.

I’d like to see a Finnish thread. Second mother tongue, but as I live in Germany, I’ve neglected it over the past years. Ymmärrän kuitenkin mistä puhe on.

Re: Language practice threads
Would it be better to resurrect a language thread that hasn't been posted in for over a year, or start a new one? (Japanese)
Surely it is as ridiculous to consider sqrt(-1) "imaginary" because you can't use it to count pieces of chalk as to consider the number 200 imaginary because by itself it cannot express the location of one point with reference to another. -Isaac Asimov

Re: Language practice threads
Resurrection is generally better.
It also has the advantage that it will show up on the view my posts page of the people who participated in the past.

Re: Language practice threads
I speak two languages (German and English) and can read two others (Archaic Greek which I studied, and Latin, self-taught). I can read archaic Greek out loud but use Liddell and Scott to translate. My German allows me to tackle languages such as Dutch (I hail from Northwestern Germany originally and my opa spoke a low German dialect which is very close to Nederlandisch) and I can also catch a lot of Yiddish. My rudimentary Latin gives me some access to some of the Romance languages (French, Spanish) and can stumble my way through the written material.
I am fearless regarding Middle English and have read much (for example Langland, Chaucer, etc, in the original)--again, with a good language dictionary and/or bi-lingual edition.

Re: Language practice threads
English is my first language. I am also fluent in spanish and once lived in a south america indigenous community for 6 months whose primary language was Quichua (Kichwa) so I picked some of that up as well (though forgotten most of it). If anyone knows Quichua or Quechua it would be cool to have someone to practice with. Also studied German on high school, but all I can remember is the poem Erlkoenig that we had to memorize.

You can practice here viewtopic.php?f=25&t=71931 (English as she is spoke - the subject line is a joke, it is intentionally wrong grammar.) Request that people correct you. It's "so much" not "so many" by the way

I don't recall posting this (it's a well-known German poem). I also don't know why I would post this, then and here. It doesn't seem to be in response to anything. Could there have been a post above this that was deleted?

It's in the post right above it that wasn't deleted, last sentence.
