XKCD Volume Zero eBook in Latest Humble Bundle

Postby Jorpho » Wed Oct 17, 2012 5:10 am UTC

This is surely pertinent to someone's interests here.

Humble Bundle, better known for inexpensive game bundles, is currently offering an eBook bundle. You can pay what you want, but you need to pay more than the average (currently around $13) to get the whole bundle:
Neil Gaiman & Dave McKean, Signal to Noise
John Scalzi, Old Man’s War
Cory Doctorow, Pirate Cinema
Paolo Bacigalupi, Pump Six
Lauren Beukes, Zoo City
Mercedes Lackey, Invasion
Kelly Link, Stranger Things Happen
Kelly Link, Magic for Beginners
Randall Munroe, xkcd: volume 0
Zach Weiner, Save Yourself, Mammal! and The Most Dangerous Game [Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal]
Jerry Holkins & Mike Krahulik, Attack of the Bacon Robots and Epic Legends of the Magic Sword Kings [Penny Arcade]

I am waffling over whether to buy now or wait and see if the average goes any lower – but it's probably only going to go up from here.

Welcome to the first time I have even vaguely thought about buying some sort of ebook reader.

The Blackberry Playbook is pretty darn cheap these days, apparently. And surprisingly free of faults, aside from the fact that it's not iOS or Android.

How can the average go lower if everyone has to pay above the average?

Also, what an interesting price scheme. What would happen to an economy where everything was priced like that (assuming it was possible for non-online things)?

They only have to pay above the average to get the extra content. They still get the base content if they pay below the average.

And naturally I bought it; while I don't care about the other Indie stuff, I'm glad to get the xkcd, SMBC and Penny Arcade books.

I always pay over the average on Humble Bundles: ever since they gave me Osmos, I've been delighted with it.

Shit I just bought - that bundle. Mostly because of the SMBC books, but getting the other stuff is just a neat bonus.

So, thanks to you guys I now have too much stuff to read again, so instead of doing my job I'm going to lay in bed and listen to Ellie Goulding while I read me some eBooks.

I bought it because I wanted to finally read something of Scalzi's that was actually fiction. Then they added more stuff later and I pretty much did a happy dance because of bonus books.

My Kindle isn't up to the task of displaying Signal to Noise nor of comfortably displaying xkcd so the additional annotations are legible.

I only read one of the Kelly Link books and decided that was too much - too abstract for me.

Aside from screen size/resolution issues with the webcomics, and not being able to reclaim the time spent reading Kelly Link's work, I'm happy with the bundle.

Psst: it's back again.

This time you can also get Will Wheaton's Just A Geek, among others.
