Looking for sci-fi book.

Postby root » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:58 pm UTC

I've been googling for an hour with no help.

The main theme of the book is that the wealthy enjoy being able to "live forever" by sleeping in cycles of years off, then being awake for mere days or weeks. The book jumps back and forth from following a man and a woman. The man, it turns out, is the oldest person alive, despite being only in his 20s because of the amount he sleeps. He got so rich by playing a game sort of like civilization and he wakes up only when someone is about to conquer the world in the game using Rome, and he then buys Rome, and make move after move to make it collapse. This pisses the original owner of Rome off to no end.

The woman does some stuff I don't really remember, but she is on the run from the cops.

Also, the Earth is completely void of anything natural. At one point, however, our lady enters a room and swims in a real lake, with real grass and real trees, which shows that the person who owns this room has untold wealth and must be extremely old. She fights something and the characters meet (I think).

i thought of this because of this article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healt ... rgery.html

/edit.
