John Fucking Hodgeman

Postby iknoritesrsly » Tue Aug 28, 2007 2:01 am UTC

I'd be surprised if he hasn't been mentioned at least once here already, but John [Fucking] Hodgeman is a god among men.

If you haven't read The Areas of My Expertise, go do so now before you die. But first, prostrate thyself to the ground and beg whatever god you believe in for forgiveness that he may forgive your foolish and naive soul for having never experienced the delight that John Hodgeman truly is.

(And for all who are going to read this and wonder who John Hodgeman is, he's the guy who played the "Mac" in the mac vs. pc commercials, and he's a writer for the NY Times, the book I suggested is a fake almanac).

That is, when he's not being godly.
Diogenes was once asked what he thought of Socrates. "A madman," he replied.
Later, Plato was asked what he thought of Diogenes. "A Socrates gone mad," he replied.
Diogenes ridiculed Plato for being long-winded.

He's also a semi-regular on the Daily Show.

I picked up The Areas of My Expertise in audiobook form at some point. It's awesome.

I totally thought this was going to be a thread about Hodge, and was very, very curious as to what it would be about.
Anyway, in light of the fact that this is not the case,
ALL HAIL KING HODGE.

I especially enjoyed the big list of hobo names. Names like Slow Motion Jones; Kneepants Erasmus, the Humanist; and many more.

Yeah, haha.

I love all of it, but two of my favorite bits are the parts where he talks about secret societies like the skull and bones men, and the part about "how to win a fight."

:D

You can't forget 9 presidents who had hooks for hands. And the excepts from his 'next book' at the end are amazing.
