Dragonball OS / Z / GT

Postby Mighty Jalapeno » Sun Jul 15, 2007 4:31 pm UTC

Is anyone here a fan of DB / DBZ / (god forbid) DBGT? Be honest... I know there's a lot of people out there who like it, but have to say that they don't because people are listening.

I personally like DBZ, because averaged across the entire series, and condensed down to a reasonable level, it's an excellent show, with lots of depth to the characters (keep in mind... condensed to a reasonable level). It's also violent, which appeals to my Y chromosome (whatever anfurny may say).

Personally: I prefer the manga.. Not that I've seen enough Z to form an informed opinion, but what I did see, did not really make me giddy for Goku :? Too drawn out was the opinion formed after watching the first 2 episodes, and then I went back to the manga :P

I liked DBZ best because that's what I grew up with. I started a crusade to watch them all again, but there are at least 100 of them...

I loved the DBZ when I was younger. I used to watch entire sagas in one go on a Sunday (Loving Cartoon Network for that), but I've not seen them in ages. I felt it fell apart somewhere around the Buu saga for me.

I say again.... :)

When I get my deathcut made (all of DBZ shortened down to a single 4 hour DVD), I'll send copies to everyone. And for the recurd, the entire Buu saga was AFTER Toriyama left production, he wanted no part in it (the Buu saga just sucked after the Majin Vegeta / Goku fight anyways, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE PLOT OF THE SAGA, NOT THE PINK BUBBLEGUM DEMON!!!)

Have you ever seen the movies? the Garlic Jr. movie saved my life probably by not letting me fall asleep one time that I was pass-out drunk.

The movies will not be in the Death Cut, since they're actually pretty well paced. Maybe I'll do a DeathCut II.... Teh Movies, when I'm done.

I have been talking about it for over a year, but I'm not even a third of the way to getting every episode, and I can't afford to buy all of the DVD's, because then I need ripping software, and DEFINITELY a new hard drive. Should fate bless me with every episode and some bigger hard drive space, I am VERY serious about doing this.

Someday *sigh*

Someday, when I'm really rich, I will own every episode of Law and Order (original, SVU, and CI) and Dragonball (orginal and Z, fuck GT) on DVD.

I voted DBZ. Dragon Ball was probably the best series, but DBZ has some great characters and is just awesomely cheesy. Plus, Vegeta rules.

I'm placing my vote for the original series, back when Goku was about 10. I have the complete original series on DvD and I've watched it from beginning to end twice so far. Goku as a kid is so adorable.

There's also some really funny moments in the original series. Example: a bad guy is posing as a fortune teller and tells young Goku that he has something very valuable on his person, and that they are two balls (referring, of course to the two dragonballs in his possession). Goku exclaims "you're right!" and proceeds to drop his pants to display his meat and two vege to all and sundry.

And when Goku pokes Bulma's undies while shes passed out, wondering if there's a wild animal in there.

Good times.

Dragon Ball is Win (I've read all the mangas) - it's such good fighting and comedy, I love how they wrap up the first arc.

I've watched most of DBZ, not nearly as good!

Haven't watched DBGT, and won't

I know what happens from reading off've wiki (did the same for Naruto), and playing Budokai.

Dragonball GT

"Let's make a Dragonball series where no-one has power levels, godly characters are wimps, and there's no fighting! OH, and add some cute aliens!"

*ratings come in*

"Allrighty, let's have a cosmic being take over Vegeta's body, wipe out humanity, have the Dragonballs turn evil, make up something furry after SSJ3, destroy the Universe, and generally suck ass!"

*ratings come in*

"Allrighty, let's go make some commercials, or something..."

First there's a lot of nostalgia factor for the original DB, for me. I watched it in Belguim in the 80s (dubbed to French of course since it's Europe).

Regardless, the original is funny, interesting and doesn't stretch battles to 302 episodes. DBZ is exactly the opposite. I remember seeing an episode starting with "There's only two minutes until the world ends!" and at the end of it, still "The world will end in two minutes!".
Mighty Jalapeno: "See, Zohar agrees, and he's nice to people."
SecondTalon: "Still better looking than Jesus."

Not how I say my name

I heard that someone timed just the dialog of that saga (sans all the fighting and powers) and that wouldn't fit into the two mintues they had until the world was going to blow up.

The first I ever saw of DBZ was the end of the Cell arc, wherein Gohan proceeded to kick Cell's ass, and I was hooked, though I went back to watch the older stuff later.

I have quite a few episodes on my computer, and I still watch them from time to time because it's a fun action show about which you don't have to think too hard.

The story could be told in 100 episodes, they stretched it the hell out. Watching it on TV was painful at times, like Goku building up the Spirit Bomb or whatever it was... how many episodes went by week after week and HE'S STILL BUILDING THE THING UP, TALKING TO HIMSELF?!? That's when I started a concerted effort to download them all. I believe 276 was the final episode count, iirc.

DB and DBZ had decent points to them, DB was animated kinda poorly for my tastes, DBZ dragged on at times. Both entertaining though. Saw part of an episode of GT and was disgusted, never watched it again.

How about the bit towards the Frieza arc where it takes Frieza and Goku about 8 episodes of fighting for five minutes to pass?

Dragon Ball,

It's funny and predates the "last time on..." "I'm OVER 9000!" "I'm OVERER 9000!" "next time..." sort of cycle. There's only so far over 9000 you can go before it's not interesting any more. (I don't actually know if or where 9000 is from DBZ)

So, DB has more happy and less screaming.

I HAD to share this from BadMovies.Org...

Dragonball: The Live Action Movie

I am no true connoisseur of "Dragonball," though I was watching the series ten years ago (courtesy of tapes sent from Japan). Still, it quickly became obvious that the live action film took certain liberties. To verify my appraisal, I showed the film to a pair of Sayan disciples. Their reaction varied between outright revulsion to frothing hatred, interspersed with pointing at the screen and screaming "blasphemy!" Obviously, my hunch was right.

Notice that the Goku proxy character is fighting machine guns with kung fu. He learns quickly that being peppered with lead projectiles of varying sizes, traveling at supersonic speeds, is painful. Not lethal, but painful. After the first few times, Monkey Boy begins using his magic pole as a spinning shield against ballistic attacks. It works, so what can I say?

Things I Learned From This Movie:

* Buddhist monks, when threatened, will form a protective circle. (Just like musk oxen!)
* Crocodiles are a species of fish.
* Boys who touch girls are called "rapists."
* Arguing with a parrot is useless.
* Turtles are bowlegged.
* Masters of kung fu can shoot lasers or particle beams out of their hands.
* Never hide something that expands into a huge dragon in your stomach.

Stuff To Watch For:

* 7 mins - I believe that it would be correct to say he possesses "the" four-star dragon pearl.
* 8 mins - Forget the grammar lesson. This movie has bigger issues.
* 24 mins - They have big guns and armored personnel carriers. You have a jeep and a wooden stick. Can you say, "forgone conclusion?" Good, I knew you could!
* 35 mins - Nope, no rubber sword here.
* 48 mins - What gave him away? The big freaking turtle shell on his back?
* 58 mins - Piggy should change those socks.
* 66 mins - Notice the cameraman's reflection in Turtle Man's glasses.
* 73 mins - There is a flaw in the logic here...

Oh, my brain....

MJ's Post

Wait, what? Is it an actual (real people) movie? That is f'd up! I would like to see it though, I don't care how rediculus.

That looks so screwed up!

I don't understand how on things I learnt it says 'people can shoot lasers out of their fingers' - isn't that the whole point of DB(Z/GT)
