Grand Theft Auto 3+ and Magic Carpet. Particularly a more fleshed out gang-warfare thing from San Andreas.

Open-ended cruising around on a magic carpet, building up your Palace as you go, occasionally taking on jobs from stronger magicians than you before coming back later, stronger, to rip their heads off and steal their magic to accentuate your own. And the real-time deformations all prettied up.

People still play Savage actually, although Natural Selection looks pretty pimp too.

I think I would like to see a combination of Savage+Mechwarrior 3 = Mechwarrior 2046
You would have a commander and a very large map. Like in Savage, players use their own resources to requisition either infantry squads, aerotech equipment, vehicles, or even mechs. Most of these options would be cutomizeable. For more advanced units and weapon modules, capturing certain facilities would be necessary(ala Z) although some structures and things like depots would be built by commanders.

Source Engine + Half Life 1. Soon! Please!

Micro Machines V3 + Ignition!

Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza + A large claw-hammer

Dwarf fortress + Elder Scrolls. Basically, good looking 3d dwarf fortress with an optional mouseclick GUI that does not make your computer asplode with 500 cats on your screen.

How about:
Z.O.E. + Mechwarrior/Armored Core = Extremely fast-paced mech combat, with flying and customizable mechs. Also, not sucky multiplayer would be nice (something which Z.O.E. and its sequel lack).

What would I like to see?

Say, Chromehounds with CoD4. Maybe with some BF2142 thrown in.

I would really like to see a more persistent world environment for a FPS. When I absolutely kick ass, I want it to mean something. Sure I get points at the end of the match, but then you just move on to another map.

Crysis has something close in multiplayer - basically it's a "war" set up for some gross amount of players designed to last 3-ish days. The map goes through night and day cycles and different weather patterns as each side acquires more technologically advanced weapons (from pistols to controlling nukes, basically).

It was awesome in context, but my school didn't really have the bandwidth to try it out full-scale.

I keep thinking of this thread / idea every now and then.

One game I would like to see is Zelda + Arx Fatalis / Ultima Underworld 2. A Zelda like game, with a setting as in Arx (cataclysm forces a civilisation underground) and plot progression like in the Britannia part of UW2. Part of a township / kingdom forced into a cavern complex. They're going to need places to live and farm etc. Clear out a dungeon, it gets settled by these survivors. Becomes a martketplace, or a mushroom farming place. Once the people move in, that opens up new areas, or creates new puzzles in the dungeon you are already somewhat familiar with.

Another that just came to me is Thief: The Dark Project (or another stealth game) + Trauma Center. For a Repo: The Genetic Opera licensed game.

Audiosurf + Dwarf Fortress.

I am really tempted to try making this game. Although it would have significantly less world simulation than dwarf fortress does...

There's a DDR mix that combines DDR with Karaoke. It's common AFAIK but it was only released in Japan.

And, how could I forget, you can link a Guitar Freaks machine with a Drummania machine with a Beatmania IIDX 2 Link edition and a certain model of DDR machine together! Shame Konami no longuer interconnects their games.

Kingdom Hearts, Prototype, and Ninja Gaiden. Crazy-ass agility/mobility and parkour + action-RPG leveling and combat + hack'n'slash combos, preferably in very large worlds/fight arenas.

Planetside + Minecraft + Monster Hunter 3 + Garry's Mod

You have a whole galaxy to explore and inhabit. You create your own vehicles and weapons. You create your own bases. You are in the middle of a galaxy spanning war. Also there are giant monsters.

This is my dream game.

So you're sent to assassinate someone and take their organs? That sounds amazing.

I'll throw in another vote for Dwarf Fortress + Oblivion. Or really, DF + <game with modern graphics>.

Also, Portal + Tetris would be interesting.

They are, but it's not going to be of the sort that would be awesome.

X-Com combined with a real time first person squad based tactics game would be pretty awesome though. Basically, X-Com and CoD would be ok, but throw in teammate control and tactical planning stage, where you get a map and give out preliminary orders, would be most excellent.

What about X-Com + Starcraft? Leaning heavily in the x-com direction for the mechanics of it. Building bases, recruiting various units (or breeding them for the zerg), making equipment and such for them, sending them out to attack or defend various locations, take over strategic resources, salvage enemy equipment and such to research and build, etc with x-com's combat style. Maybe set on some planet, and attempt to fight off or take it over from the other groups on it, or such.

Ascendancy + something with good AI. :)

And no one has mentioned Super Mario Crossover yet? :)

Star Control 1 + Star Control 2? (Not Star Control 3) :)

Flight Simulator X + Armed Assault II + Dangerous Waters + Orbiter = Best MMO warfare simulator ever.

Launch a satellite in Orbiter, get a LHA into position near the coast in Dangerous Waters while shooting other planes, then fly choppers in Flight Simulator from the LHA to the beach then flying CAP for the guys on the ground in Armed Assault. Guys in Armed Assault call up real-time satellite imagery from the satellite launched in Orbiter.

I'm honestly considering building this. A little IPC from each platform, a HLA gateway and it's all set!

I have always wanted to combine Rock Band (or Guitar Hero, at the time I originally had this idea) with the Guilty Gear series. Guilty Gear has always had a serious hard rock theme going throughout it, and it also has some of the best original rock music I've ever heard in a game. I would kill for the chance to play those tracks in RB, possibly with beautiful sprite avatars of the GG characters on cool themed guitars. I mean, hell, I-no already USES a guitar in GGXX!

Awesome.

There's a multiplayer mod for Oblivion, but it only works on a completely unpatched install, and can be really buggy when it comes to save games.

This is more combining a game and a set of books, although there are probably games that could provide the elements I'm thinking of.

Just read another Wheel of Time book. I always love the way the planning for battles is done, the logistics and everything. Especially once the magic-using is bought into play, and they have to consider the implications of one army being able to teleport, or a unit of a dozen magic-users having the killing power of far more men.

So, UFO - Enemy Unknown (X-com, whatever) and Wheel of Time.

The thing about X-Com I've always noticed is.. when people make an X-Com game, or something they say "Oh man, it's like X-Com again!" they really mean that it's a tactical skirmish game. Part of X-Com's charm is not just the horrifically hard battles, but base management as well. And research and manufacturing.. and keeping all those nations happy with your progress (Or doing what I do, and say FU America, Mexico and Canada, deal with your own shit while I cover everyone else on the planet).

So, you almost need a setting wherein you are being funded and supplied by several different organizations - organizations that may actually hate each other - and attempt to keep them all happy.

I'm thinking a generic fantasy/Lord of the Rings style thing - multiple kingdoms of different races being assaulted by sneaking enemies, and you running a coalition force supplied by all of the kingdoms and using troops drawn from the kingdoms to combat them might work.

Or in this case, Wheel of Time.. to a certain extent, at least. I seem to recall Rand being a little on the "Fuck'em, we'll just steamroll'em with our army" towards the end, but I may be mistaken. It's been a while. Anyway, play up Rand or whomever needing to make the various nations Happy to keep from collaborating with the Forsaken, and yeah, I think it'd work.

Manhunt + Tales of Monkey Island
Basically a point and click Heavy Rain with a lot more violence and a funny, well written plot.

Silent Hill + Kingdom Hearts - Disney Over The Top Cuteness

Metroid and Star Fox: Assault. Imagine jumping in-and-out of Samus' gunship, hopping from one planet to the next, and rail-shooting segments combined with third-person shooter Metroid-style gameplay.
