I had acquired a pre-release copy of a Calvin and Hobbes book. Like a publisher's or editor's copy. Was walking around a large city, and for some reason ended up cutting through a house to get to another street. Turned out to be Bill Waterson's house, or at least he was renting it for a while. It was nearly unfurnished, just a kitchen table. He and his wife were there, and asked me why I was there. I explained, then told him I was a huge fan, and asked for an autograph in the book. He obliged, then we talked about favorite strips. I for some reason just named a random strip, when I wanted to say the last one, about it's a magical world. Then I regretted saying the wrong strip, and felt bad.

*flames burst forth from the stage with palpable heat*

We're going to die, we're going to die,
There's nothing left to say,
We're going to die, we're going to die,
and that is quite ok

We're going to die, we're going to die,
it's over through and through,
We're going to die, we're going to die,
the end for me and you

*Clock turns to midnight*

*long pause*

*music starts again with higher tempo and intensity*

We're going to die, we're going to die,
it's all determined now,
We're going to die, we're going to die,
the why, the who, the how

We're going to die, we're going to die,
There's nothing left to say,
The show is finished guys and gals,
Get up it's time to pay

Last lyrics from the hit sockpuppet show of my dreams, 1/5/16

I dreamed I was a soldier at war in an asian country. They were using human wave techniques with young girls. The psychological factor meant lots of soldiers were being killed. I holed up on the fire escape of a movie theater and killed about 80 of them, and when I was done I turned the front part of their skulls into little masks which I showed to the rest, causing them to curse me and flee. It alienated me from all my fellow soldiers and when word spread I was condemned by higher ups and public opinion, but my commanding officer promoted me.

Dreamed of my mother's old soap opera. It was ending (which actually happened) and everyone was so happy; excited and scared. They were going to be free. Two of them were starting up a relationship. They'd been childhood friends, and one was wondering how you get past that many years of drama and history. The other suggested they start with a blank slate. Arguing what had been them and what had been the writers would be impossible, and really, the only way to find out was going forward without them. The first one expressed doubt that they could really forget all of that. "Well, if I bring up something you did, you can bring up something stupid I did." "But you did so many fewer stupid things. You were always the sensible one." "Probably just the boring one. Either way, there's enough that we'll have to take a lunch break before you finish, and hopefully that will clear our heads." It was all just kind of sweet and meta and hopeful.

Also there had been a Marvel crossover at some point and half the characters were walking around with superpowers, but that was more a background detail. (That also actually happened, though I don't think people actually wound up with superpowers after it. Definitely not so many of them.)

Two weeks ago I rolled my car on a mountain road in the first snow around here for decades. I'm miraculously unharmed but the car is totaled.

A few nights ago I dreamt that that wreck had gone much worse, that the car had slid down one of the many cliffs on the road I was on, and somehow I climbed out of it unharmed, and got far enough away from it, just as it caught fire and exploded. The burning wreck of the car sort-of caught the forest on fire, except it was still snowing so it was like all the trees were smoldering but not actually aflame, just kinda glowing like charcoal, and that not-exactly-forest-fire chased me down the river in the canyon I had crashed into, until I got to the point where that river meets a road.

I followed that road up to the ranger station that's on it, but nobody was there at the ranger station because they were off investigating the crash/fire. I continued to the highway and then down along it toward my house dozens of miles away, hoping to hitch a ride but no cars were coming down the road because they couldn't get past the fire at the place where I had wrecked. I made it home by midnight, still miraculously unharmed and just really tired, and showered and went to bed.

The next morning (in the dream still, I dreamt that I went to bed and got up again the next morning) I got up and started work (I work from home) and one of my coworkers asked (online) if the big fire was near my house, and I looked up the news and the whole wide area that had been just-smoldering the previous night had turned into a gigantic blaze once the snow had stopped, and several firemen were already dead or injured from fighting to contain it, and I started panicking that they would eventually recover my license plate from the wreckage and the entire fire and all those casualties would be blamed on me.

That panic woke me up out of the dream.

I had a dream that I was flying a small plane at night, but I didn't know how to turn on the lights and it was nearly out of fuel. I was in sort of a wildnernessy forest area (it was hard to tell due to there being no lights) but thought I saw a road so tried to land. Turned out it was a river. Then I couldn't get the plane door open and woke up just as I drowned.

It was a stressful dream.

Not in that dream.

I once dreamt an entire Monday in the night between Sunday and Monday, including getting up and going to bed at the end, and when I actually got up Monday morning I thought it was Tuesday (because I already did Monday!) and went to my Tuesday job instead of my Monday one.

I had a fairly complex dream. It started out my friend and I were children, running away from something. We ran across a bridge to another world that was nice, but after a while, he went ahead of me to another world and I stayed behind. When I finally found him, he was an adult with all the responsibilities of adulthood and a wife, and there was no place left for me in his life. So I went to another world, which was run by demons. There was one called the master of coin who instituted a policy to execute people for laughing. I wound up on trial for it, but I made a good case because my laughter had been nervous, so it didn't represent the same thing. They let me off the hook after teleconferencing with another demon. But then one of them started coming onto me and I kind of figured I had to go with it or they'd kill me. They brought up my history, including my history as trans (I'd gotten a perfect sex change by sitting in some sort of stem-cell tank in one of the worlds and was pretty cute). Then the dream ended.

Oh, and there was a man put on trial for laughing who laughed throughout his entire trial, plead guilty, and said he deserved it and went happily to his fate. He pissed off the demons really badly.

I had a pretty lengthy dream involving a zombie apocalypse. It mostly had an indoor setting – at one point I was in something resembling a ballroom or opera house, then later I was in a multi-story residential building, spending most of my time in a large stairwell. Then I tried to escape the zombies by hopping on a friendly elephant. I know nothing about riding elephants, but in this dream I operated his left legs by pulling on his left ear, and his right legs by pulling on his right ear. We were really in the thick of it by that point, and he was trampling them underfoot.

I dreamed I was having a conversation with someone, explaining that I was very tired and all I wanted to do was live in the desert. They said there are storms, and I said that people can build to withstand any storm, and they said I have no foundation, and I said I could get one. I said that I wanted to live in the desert, with a nice view of the mountains, and a place to shoot.

I had a very lengthy dream, but the only part that really sticks is watching the never-released sequel to the 1995 action-comedy film Judge Dredd, but this one starred a slightly aging Chu.ck Nor.ris as the Judge who most stop a legion of self-replication partially-mechanical Dredd clones, all played by Stallone.

I don't remember many details, but at some point there was something along the lines of "think of weird lyrics for a song". It included the rather epic sentence "tape a whole bunch of coins to a moose and release it in the middle of a mall".

...My mind is even weirder than I thought. :o

I dreamed that the Iowa caucuses were being decided by crazy events and tricks. One had this middle aged woman holding two large, oval food trays. One had a frozen turkey on it. She had to flip them from in front of her, over her head towards a target. She tried, but they hit each other and they fell on the floor. Someone else tried it with just one tray, and managed to get the turkey through a basketball hoop that was above a trash can. There were other events like this, and whoever won them got to decide the vote for their area of Iowa for democratic nominee.

First, some context: My wife has been binge-watching Pretty Little Liars recently, and I've been indirectly exposed to it. Also, I live in Alaska, and it's been a warm winter, so ... bears.

Last night, I had a dream that someone had put my garbage cans out before 4:00 am (which can result in a fine), and then I got a text saying something along the lines of:
Don't feed the bears. It can get expensive.

I was on an island. There was a long pier going out from it. I somehow picked up the whole thing, and rotated it to the left, so it was sticking out a different direction from the island. Except when I set it back down in the water, it caused a tidal wave. I ran down the pier to get onto this cruise ship, but the ship started tipping over. I had to hold onto the railing.

Does anyone else have dreams with that "this feels significant" feeling to them, set in real-world locations, and then when you're in that real-world location that significant feeling from the dream lingers there? Like... if a loved one died on a certain street corner, ever time you passed that street corner you would feel the significance of that location, right? All the feelings of that event lingering there, associated with that place? Except that the "event" that "happened" there wasn't a real tragedy like that, it was just a dream with that "feeling of significance" feeling to it.

I've had several dreams that involve traveling down various paths and trails in and around my hometown and the dreams feel like they're sequels to each other somehow, and that at the end of the combined path that they're all part of (in the dream; they're disjoint paths in reality) lies... something really important. And every time I pass by one of them in real life I feel a lingering "important thing down that way, go" kind of destiny-pull. Except I've actually gone down those paths and they go nowhere special and I know that, but that "this is important" feeling from the dreams lingers on in association with them.

I've had similar stuff to that. And I think people have previously described changed perceptions of people around them following dreams (including with the most TV-sitcom example of "I had a sexy dream about someone who's my friend and now they're super sexy").

Last night was another really, really LONG dream, that really seemed to wander all over like crazy but it did have one single over-arching plot, which can best be summed up as: My best friend is a beautiful girl (we were teenagers, which is where a LOT of my dreams tend to take place, chronologically speaking), but she is apparently so beautiful that she is the object of desire for more than just people.

In particular: an ex-boyfriend of hers underwent genetic mutations to gain Wolverine's powers in an attempt to win her back, but it didn't work because he's still abusive. So he cloned himself and hoped that there being two of him could allow him'them to successfully abduct her and win her over. In the end, though, they just started fighting with eachother. At the same time, one of Cthulhu's underlings is trying to also abduct her to make a bride for the Great Old One, so we're having to deal with tentacle beasts. Her math teacher (clearly ripped from Doctor Crane from Gotham) is using all of these other suitors as distractions in order to get close to her. And the lame cherry on top is as her best friend, I'm protecting her from all of this and trying to tell her how I feel, but she feigns obliviousness to that because she feels that if she tells me she doesn't like me in that way, I'll stop protecting her from all the other guys.

I'm not sure how to feel about any of this.

It's obviously your responsibility to choose for her, and if you choose any path but "bride of Cthulhu," you are a bad friend.

I was Matt Damon in the Martian. Except 4 people were on the planet instead of just me. There were big storms, and two of them died. It was just me and the red headed captain from the movie. At one point we were going to cook and eat her...monthly flow, because they were eggs(yeah, I know that's not how it works). Then she got pregnant, but we were supposed to be rescued before the baby would be born.

I've been reading a lot of the Dresden Files lately, so that explains the first part of this:

I was going back to the car or van or maybe convenience store from a outdoor show, maybe a concert. Went into the store, and looked around for someone. Instead found this weird animate bag, like a blob. I realized He Who Walks Behind had liquefied someone and was in their corpse 'bag' and moving it around. I used a mirror to look around and try and figure out where he was going, and he said it was smart to use that mirror. At some point I beat him, maybe with magic. Then there was a woman's corpse on the floor of a van that I had arrived in. I knew the cops would never believe I hadn't killed her, so I lit the van on fire, and fled. Then I was at a state fair. I was trying to meet up with my family because I was supposed to take my mother to a show. I kept having issues because it was super, super crowded, and I was also trying to avoid the cops.
Also at one point I went to park a vehicle for a concert, on someone's lawn. I'd parked there before, but had to leave and come back for some reason. Except this time when I tried to park there I was told it would cost me $1000. I said fuck that, and left to find a different place to park.

I dreamed something. I can't recall most of it. The last detail that stuck in my mind was that it's no use setting fire to Norwegians because they have all that snow and it puts the flames right out.

Who was trying to set them on fire I don't know. It was one of those third-person dreams, though, so not me.
Oh, Willie McBride, it was all done in vain.

Was on the Enterprise D. Basically in an episode of TNG. Early on met this Klingon ship captain. We were at a space station. Later on the power is out on the ship, we're all going to die, normal stuff. One particular person was being targeted. Don't recall who. Maybe Troi. I was in a large room, maybe a cargo hold or something. Was trying to fix somethingand was in a hatch on the floor, and there were wires all over that I had to push out of the way to stick my head up through the hatch into the room. Was there with two engineering gyus and Riker. I made a joke about Riker not understanding something because he wasn't engineer. We laughed, but I could tell he was a little mad about it. Later on everything was fixed, and we found out the Klingon was behind it all, because whoever his target was had killed his brother years back.

Was on vacation, on a beachy area. Was drinking a beer, or going to taste a bunch of beers. The ones I didnt like I threw on the beach. There were a lot there, and some were in bottles about 2 feet tall. I walked around this shelter area, and saw puzzle pieces on the ground. Picked them up, and realized there were from the Enterprise puzzle I was working on. Or maybe this other Enterprise puzzle. Or a third one.

Then was trying to plan to go to a show at a theater while on vacation. I was mad at myself for not planning this earlier, and missing the opportunity.

I lingered in bed this morning half asleep and constructed a rather elaborate world. It took hours and a lot of "hmm, no, that doesn't make sense, let's make it so that X." I only remember that the end result was impressively convoluted and oddly cohesive.

Weird experience.

In my dream last night, I was with my family at a restaurant, but I didn't have to order any food - I'd brought it with me because I bought it the last time I went to that restaurant. :?

(This dream actually gave me an idea of where to go out to eat today, so it gets points for that.)

Lots of disjointed things, mostly involving me being at a college. But not the college I went to 10 years ago.

I was trying to get into a dorm, and had a dog with me. Except the dorm entrance was this weird half underground pillar thing. Like it had windows that were maybe 2'x3' and at about a 30-45 degree angle around the base. The entrance was symmetrical, but I knew I needed to get in, but the windows didn't make sense.

I had eaten a pot brownie, but realized halfway through that I ate too much, so tried to spit out part of it. But I didn't want anyone to know I'd eaten one, or was spitting any out. SO tried to sneak around, and spit half it it into the ziploc that had the rest of the brownies. But then I was worried about getting this gross, slimy stuff on things I'd want to eat later.

Was walking down a hallway headed someplace important. This really big dude was working in a kitchen area, and knocked over this huge platter of food. Lobster tails and something else. (still at college).

Was going to class, and went in this small elevator. Realized that it was really half an elevator, and there was a wall between me and the other side, where a bunch of my classmates were, and I could look over the top of the divider. I thought the design was kind of cool, but was disappointed because it felt like I was being excluded.

Spoiler for trigger:

Spoiler:
Was in a crowded area, I think a mall. A female friend was getting abducted and was going to be raped. I kept trying to chase after her and her abductors, and trying to attack them, but the crowd was in my way, and when I tried to hit one of them it was like I wasn't even there - he completely ignored me. I tried dumping a full cup of pepsi down the back of his shirt or hoodie, and again, it was like it didn't even happen. At some point this lead me out into the parking garage, where I lost them.

School trip, old mill "as it would have been" as a museum. Challenge: each child had a one-word description of a thing to find. First back won a book. Mine was "diary" so I went to the office and got the diary. I was first back but it was the wrong diary, as I'd gone to the museum office and grabbed the modern diary and we were meant to be showing understanding of the mill by getting mill stuff, so I had to go back for the mill office diary. The head girl showed me where to find it, so I thanked her and asked what her thing to find was. She said "Stucco," which I told her was that stuff they put on ceilings, like dribbly plaster but fancier. I set off back with the diary and saw a "certificate of genuine stucco" pertaining to some chairs. I was going to take it to her but saw someone else (Yeah, I remember their names from 30 years ago) with his item so had to run like mad to win. Got there first but no teacher in sight and he got there too. Fortunately, I still won. Dinner in big hall. I went back to get her stucco thingy for her, brought it and then couldn't remember what she looked like (because it's been 30 years). Then there was something else, so I had to go out through the gift shop and across the courtyard. They'd put something in front of the door to stop the wind blowing it open. I moved that and went out for the other thing I had to do, then couldn't get back in. Then dinner was over and they all came out and I'd missed dinner.
Oh, Willie McBride, it was all done in vain.

I was living in the house next door(not in my real neighborhood). Leela from Futurama lived there, but she was out of town and I was living there to keep an eye on it for her. There was some evil plot to destroy the world that I needed to stop, but I kept having issues getting locked out of the house. I didn't have keys, or left the keys inside. One time the garage door shut behind me, and I tried to grab it and stop it - which was really stupid, but it worked. Then I was going through stuff in the garage. I saw something oozing out of a...something. Bag or really small wheelbarrow or something. It was dog poo. Except it was moving, because there was a possum in it. I managed to pick up the possum with a scoop thing we use on the dog poo, and threw it in a metal garbage can. Except when I opened the can, there was already a possum skull in it. I slammed the lid down to keep it inside. And was wondering if the owner had used acid to dissolve a possum.

I had a Nightmare.
It's slipping away, already.

I was frightened.
Something about my stupid shoes.
Spoiler:
That was a Nightmare.
I am frightened Real Life.

My dream was kind of terrible actually....that my fiance broke off our engagement and I had to see her with someone else. Definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning after that.

My friend Nate somehow conned me into joining the Army or National Guard. We were in the desert for training and talking about it at a table with other guys. I was telling them I thought I should have waited and tried to join a unit that needed engineers because I have a degree, and that I shouldn’t have joined regular riflemen.

This was really worrying to read until I saw the thread title and realized I'm wasn't reading a Fleeting Thoughts or Rant thread.
