A great "month of packages" is being organized. Every day in the month of June (2009), anyone who is interested will buy a $1 or less item on eBay with free shipping for someone else. If you're interested, sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/MonthOfPackages

You can buy illegal stuff on eBay? They sure hide those items well.

I saw a 'trade postcards' thread on the next forum over. This sounds way better.

Read the comic. If you still don't get it, read it again. If you still don't get it, leave and never come back.

Look, there are 3 types of people in this world: those who know binary and those who make up nonsensical jokes that aren't even remotely funny.

These categories are certainly not mutually exclusive.

I agree. -_-

I'm sad you've chosen to take the joy out of my experience as a new poster for some reason.

Yep.

Those were not my intentions :(

I'm just worried about shipping - free shipping is usually only for U.S. Where do you live? If it would still be total <$1 for the majority of items, it shouldn't be a problem.

Only that it's going to happen. The biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is how to ensure that everyone does their part in ordering packages for someone else. I've been looking into prepaid cards and the like. Any ideas, please share.

What will this do? I haven't really thought about it extensively, but a quick run-through in my brain reveals no way to completely ensure anyone does anything.

Whatever happens, it should be noted that every person on eBay takes PayPal. A few of the people I've bought from in the past only take PayPal. That's how I was planning to purchase things.

Seems like the simple way to minimize deadbeats is to give every user a new name and address to mail to for every day in June. So everyone mails to 30 people. Might make it more random and interesting too, since everyone will have different tastes.

I'm still buyin' and I'm still gettin', so I'd say despite a small snag, it is so far, so good (my end at least).

Well, from what I can tell, Batangutan came up with the idea that we would switch people every Friday. Since the weeks fell all weird-like, that essentially means we buy for (and are bought for by) five different people. Every day we have to put down an item number in an online spreadsheet to keep track of who's doing what (you can only see your own though) and to make sure everyone is still buying every day and not getting something for nothing.

Genius, really, and a shytton of fun.

So I never ended up getting the three final gifts, I think partly because one of the items says it cost $2 to ship, so something might've happened there. No matter. As the month was going on, I managed to image everything I got and get a screenie of every thing I bought for someone else. If you got me these things, thank you. If you received them, you're welcome.

HERE is my page with everything I sent and received for the entire month. It's a simple page, but was a lot of fun to finish.
