packing peanuts

Postby krazykate » Sat Oct 25, 2008 7:04 pm UTC

I've got a whole box full of them, and have no idea what to do with them. Surely there's SOMETHING fun you can do with massive amounts of styrofoam pellets besides ship things.

I have no full ideas, only the general feeling that a blender should be involved.

Get some acetone and dissolve them in it. That's about the only use for them I can think of besides shipping material.

Make a beanbag perhaps? How big depends on how much you've got.

Find a car of someone you do or don't like (or know) that has it's windows slightly down. Fill car.

Yes, I'm evil.

For more evil, freeze a can of shaving cream, punch a hole in it with a nail and hammer, and place through open car window. Again, Fill car.

If you were truly evil, you would have tried this already and realized it does not fill the car. I'm fairly sure Mythbusters tried it, though it doesn't appear to be on Youtube.

Therefore, Cockeyed.com's Rob Cockerham will be filling in for the busting of this myth.

I dunno how big said box is, but you should just get in the box.
Wee!

Or maybe devise some sort of fan setup that let's you keep a swirling storm of packing peanuts moving through your domicile at all times.

As for the pellets, maybe some kid's playground thing, like a ball pit just not with balls but pellets. And ditch the kids, play there yourself.

1 can will mostly fill a small hatchback. 2 overflows a family sedan.

Done and tested with 3 wrecked cars on a mates property.

Unless these are super duper industrial sized cans, i call BS. i've seen 10 cans not be able to fill the back seat of a small sedan.

mythbusters did disprove this, but it could be a different brand of cream. we must do experiments with 50 different brands of shaving cream. If we find some that react like his did and some that react like mythbusters did they can both be telling the trust. I'm inclined to agree with mythbusters.

Please do not make napalm. We probably have enough CIA employees browsing this site as it is without being on a list of terrorist web rings. You can put them on Craigslist for free, and if you are in a populated area, someone who is moving will want to use them for actually moving.

Fill a back pack or something large and carry-able with them, get a bunch of people to do this with you, go to a random public place, have a hole in the bottom that is covered, when you get there, uncover the hole and walk around leaving a random trail of packing peanuts to confuse people XD

Kijiji/Craiglist/Freecycle/Whatever free online classifieds are available in your area.

I have had extremely good results with this in the past. There's always someone looking for packing peanuts, and they're bloody expensive if an individual wants to buy them at the post office. (Naturally, I can never find any when I need some.)

Do I win the prize for most boring suggestion? I think so!

Alternatively,

Step 1: Cut a hole in a box
Step 2: Put your junk in that box
Step 3: Make her open the box (er, with packing peanuts inside also)
And that's the way you do it.

Only if someone involved has a packing-peanut fetish. Otherwise you put someone's head in the box (body optional).

Put the packing peanuts in sacks and use them to float a raft. That way you get to sail downstream with your packing peanuts and not pollute the environment.

I read this thread and thought the title meant instead of 'Packing heat' there would be discussion of using peanuts in offensive capabilities.

However I am confronted with a thread on styrofoam shapes, so with that in mind...
Make clothing out of it, and pretend to be a fashionista (also try to make up a reasoning for it (like it reveals how people are protected in life etc etc)) and then I believe Step 4: Profit.

This is pretty boring, but you could recycle them.

Alternatively, you could put some broken pottery in a box, fill the rest with pellets, and then mail it to someone with the label "Fragile: Handle with Care" on the side.
