TIL that
Theresa May has repeatedly refused to guarantee that EU rules to limit the working week to 48 hours will survive Brexit.

Some ministers pushing for maximum “divergence” from EU regulations are believed to be eyeing up the working time directive and the 48-hour rule.

It states that the average working time should not exceed 48 hours for each seven-day period, although it is possible for works to opt out.

Chuka Umunna was among at least six Labour MPs who spoke up, urging Ms May to “guarantee that, post-Brexit, none of the working time regulations, importantly the 48-hour working week, will be done away with by her Government”.

Some day soon: "We're bringing in a 63-hour standard working week and an overtime ban. If you don't like it, you know where the door is."

I wonder whether they have any janitorial jobs going in Germany ...
Oh, Willie McBride, it was all done in vain.

Forty hours plus prep and commute time are too many hours.
Forty- eight would be awful.

Today I learned: Nobody on the forums likes my jokes or even wants to talk to me much. I'm still mostly just talking to myself in the community. Why even bother? Like so totally whatever. And why in the Goddesses' names is a thread made by a banned person still around? Creeping me out big times.... :(

xkcd forums are very inactive. There are like 15 regular posters, spread out over many subforums, so not every subforum is browsed by every user.

And yet still somehow people find where I'm talking to myself just to tell me how unfunny I am. Even though the forums are very inactive. Funny how that works huh?

I quit the forums for a while and fled to Quixotess's chat room. But then.... And she created the thread we're posting in right now! I'm very conflicted about Miss Q. I'm happy someone laughed at your joke. I would have. :)

TIL (well not today, probably two days ago) I learned, that whether two events are simultaneous depends on the speed of the observer. It's one of those things, that sounds super weird but also something I could've realised just from knowin about the existence of time dilation.

Lighting strikes a moving train on the front and on the end at the same time. This person standing here sees both bolts strike at the same time. This guy standing over there sees the front first, and then the second. Due to some weird devil stuff.

It's just that time and space are the same thing, in the same sense that "North" and "East" are the same thing (+/-i). Referring to the north rotational pole, the north magnetic pole, or North Pole NY turns some "North" into "East", the same way moving turns some space into time.

This must be why real estate costs so much. Time is money, and time is space. So space is money. Modulo i.

It means you'll sink more easily / have a much harder time staying at the surface.

Why you'd have a swimming pool full of gasoline is an interesting question though.

No, I'm talking about my burning swimming pool. I didn't put the gasoline on the fire, so is that okay then? I mean clearly putting gasoline on my bonfire is bad according to his rules but his rules don't say if it's bad to have my gasoline on fire.

Close enough? Probably not.

If you didn't burn it, how long could you keep the gasoline in the swimming pool? I'd think evaporation would be a significant problem. You'd probably need an enclosure, like the pool in the video.

Scratch that, the pressure from the increased volume (as the gasoline turns from liquid to vapor at the surface) might become a problem in an enclosure.

Hmmm.

Clearly if your gasoline is on fire then someone put it there, thereby violating rules 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 13.

This reminds me of a children's story I quite like, where two people standing in the rain talk about improving the umbrella to make standing in the rain less unpleasant. They add walls, a frame (so they don't need to hold it above their heads), floor, windows and even a stove and they're pretty satisfied with themselves until they realise they invented the tent.
I don't think pressure buildup would be too much of a problem thoguh, neither jerrycans nor the gas tanks in car look like pressure vessels.

But if you set fire to gasoline you're not putting gasoline on a fire, you're putting fire on the gasoline.
