Is there somewhere you go to discuss books?

Postby Jorpho » Thu Dec 21, 2017 3:54 am UTC

Seems to me the Books forum here doesn't get much traffic these days. I'm sort of tempted to start posting on Goodreads; are any of you here into that?

I suppose there's always Reddit, but the prospect of being downvoted into oblivion often makes me hesitate to post at all.

I'm on goodreads! I try to post a review of every book I finish, though I haven't been doing that for super long. For book discussions I try to have book clubs with my friends, which usually takes the form of me and someone else reading the same book and then talking about it, or me reading their favourite book so that we can talk about it.

I wouldn't bother with Reddit.

I had to explain to someone there that, no, sheep do not breathe through their anus.

I wish I was kidding

You should give Jorpho her email address I guess.

She is profoundly uninterested in email.

Seems to me like the universal experience of book clubs is a number of people agreeing to read the same book and then never quite getting around to it.

Eh, sometimes I'm slow about it but I get around to it. You could still do the thing where you read someone else's favourite book and then discuss it with them though -- they've already read that one so it wou.

TIL I'm not a sheep.

Then what the hell am I?

That said...I don't talk to anyone about books because it seems nobody reads or is interested and most places where you would discuss them are inactive.

Sheep are basically hairier, relaxed goats

Combine that with the Bear Gryllis pea drinking survival tip and you have got a really high demand reality tv show for certain markets.

I believe OP is Way Overthinking It. There are public libraries, book clubs/discussion groups, online forums Everywhere and he or she could even talk to his or her own Mother. It's not complicated. You don't HAVE to go on some snobby website where everyone down votes your posts into oblivion if you don't wanna.
