Great picture of you both but why was the cloud formation behind you trying to signal the arrival of the four horsemen? My reading of Revelations didn't particularly mention you meeting...

Oh, I get it, it's a Trump thing. Of course, I forgot, we're all fucked. You're just one of the signs.

I'm pretty much taking a year out to help my brain get to an ok state (also to consolidate all the stuff I didn't have a great chance to properly learn this time around). I'm planning to apply for a research master's (or maybe PhD) for entry in autumn 2018. I'm also going to look into supervising (running the small problem-sheet classes with the students)

Mission accomplished, you looked nice! Is a risotto burger one where the bun in actually grilled risotto or something like that?

The burger part itself was risotto! Mine had bacon and sweet chilli and stuff, it was: delicious.

Congratulations on graduating! That sounds like a great plan! FWIW I'd definitely recommend a research master's before a PhD - most people these days do a research master's first, so that sets the experience level expectation for new PhD students. I went straight into a PhD and I definitely felt that added a whole ton of extra stress to my first two years because I had so much catching up to do. It's not so much that I lacked knowledge, more that I was lacking practical and administrative experience - how exactly you plan out a long research project, how to know when to focus on breadth vs. depth in the questions you're asking, when to drop a line of research that's unproductive vs. when to persevere, how to spot if an odd result is from something you've done wrong or is something potentially interesting. That's all stuff you only really start to learn when you have a research project that's longer than six months or so.

That's largely why I took this job as a lab tech - to get in the habit of coming in every day to run experiments, and to think of a PhD as a job, not just more schooling. I've also taken on my own projects, which has been very helpful.

Edit: it also means I'm at work today with a sprained wrist when I should be home chillaxing
