Google Search Results

Postby yoteango » Thu Sep 24, 2009 4:23 am UTC

So I got bored the other day and decided to mark out the number of search results for each number of "o" in google. I started at ggle, gogle, google, gooogle, goooogle... all the way to gooo(118 more o's)ooogle at 125 o's until the word was too long.

Here is the data

The bumps at 13 and 36 seems to be old domain names owned by Google itself. Apart from these curiosities, I think you can put the rest down to random variability.

Ha, that's a neat experiment to do.

The bump at 59 is very reasonable. A ".com domain name" can have up to 63 characters in it, and due to Google's popularity
gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle.com
is certain to be registered, since it's the most o's you can use.

Also registered are things like pi to 63 decimals (with 3 being a subdomain):

I'd also expect peaks around powers of 2, due to repeated copy and pasting.
    Indigo is a lie.
Which idiot decided that websites can't go within 4cm of the edge of the screen?
There should be a null word, for the question "Is anybody there?" and to see if microphones are on.
