Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: TONIGHT 27/11/09 GUYS
Considering that a lot of us here are probably fairly sympathetic to that cause, why the hell would we want to go and make fun of it?

Why not? I am extremely sympathetic to the cause, but that doesn't mean you can't have a bit of fun.
EDIT: It turns out I am already booked for the 20th. Pity! I still want to meet all of you.

Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: TONIGHT 27/11/09 GUYS
Hi hi hi hi hi!
Luke is here and I am with him and we are together and I'm excited. Also, I'm excited.
I like the 14th for an xkcd meet. My plan is to go to the city at some ungodly time in the morning and catch the ferry and see the bridge and the opera house and customs house and the botanical gardens and feed the eels and have icecream and stay until it goes dark and the bats fly away. Cool? We can also roll down hills and make xkcd references at each other like we normally do.
Unless you people fail at being available on Sundays. Then we can have adventures on a Saturday instead.

14th is no good for me... unless y'all want to come laser tagging at the Entertainment Quarter?

QFT this.
Currently I think the 14th would work out for me, though I'd have to see how everything is going. A saturday would be less good because I have judo till midday

Yeah, 13th or 14th is doable for me, though 13th is probably a little better, but both are doable I expect.

Either's good, but I'd like to know for sure sooner rather than later so I can NA the day for work. I mean I can do that any time up until the night before, but they like it better when there's fair warning.

Okay, lets say the 14th. We're ultimately deciding between Daedalus and Mikey, and Mikey is doing something cool enough without us imo. If you strongly disagree, lets hear it.

Well, I actually couldn't do Saturday at all either (I did just find out yesterday) so I support this.
Megan said something about catching the ferry. You should come to Parra instead of granville and get a ferry to the city (and so should the other people further west than me)... Then we can make everyone meet at Circular Quay.
Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 2010
Actually, if we're going to be doing trains, buses and ferries, I support Sunday too. With that family fun day pass you can effectively pay $5 for all travel (one $2.50 ticket for you and one for an imaginary child).

Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 2010
I already have a travelpass, so it's effectively free for me regardless of how we get there...

Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 2010
Sounds good! Hopefully I can make it; currently uni and everything else is creating an awful amount of commitments, but I think a day off would probably be nice.
A warning though; I may end up bringing my girlfriend up, but she's p.cool (ask maj, he's met her
). Hopefully no-one has a big problem with this, and we've gotten past the constant PDA stage so yeah.

Well, I might be a bit jealous that I don't get to have dedalus to myself all day...

So we have a day, and the place is Circular Quay it seems, so now we only need a time. A late morning, early afternoon would be good for me.

Dude, cityrail. Considering how large my margin of error is, I'd think even minutes is a bit too precise.
Anyway, I can make it to Central at either 11:57 or 10:58, and from there to circular quay isn't very hard to do. So I'd be going for either 11:15-11:30 or 12:15-12:30. Which suits people better?

Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 201
I'd put my vote down for meeting at ~11.
If the ferry idea i proposed is going to be taken up by other people out this way, there is one leaving parra at 10 which gets there at almost 11. They also only run once an hour.

We will catch the boat with you, Brendan. It is a cool idea.
And I like 11am, too. Ummm, we went to Manly last week so can we go have lunch in a food place then go explore the Rocks and then the botanical gardens for feeding eels? I suggest the place we went to for dinner a while ago, the pizza and pasta place.
Also, hi.

That is like, exactly what another friend of mine said she felt like doing on the Sunday just past. I said it was likely pretty similar to this and she should tag along, so there might be an extra person, but she's pretty cool.
The ferry is slow, but it's a nice way to get into the city. Do people want me to be tour guide and meet them at the station, or can you find the ferry easily?

The ferry station is right next to the part where the water is. I think there's a pole nearby.

Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 201
Where we got dinner is very much in the southern part of the city, and the rocks and the quay is in the north, and the botanical gardens are NW to W. What I'm saying is that going from the quay to Mama somethings, to the rocks to the gardens isn't a great route. I'll put feelers out for a cheap eats place around the quay. This is going to be pushing stuff uphill with a pointy stick, but I'm sure there'll be somewhere that works.
And everyone is pro 11 it seems, so 11 it is.

11 is about when me and my posse (yeah, I'm gonna refer to the others getting the ferry with me as my posse) will be alighting at circular quay. Since Megan at least seems to want to hang out around the rocks/botanic gardens, you should head down there and we'll wait for you before moving out.
Re: SYDNEY PEOPLE! Currently Orgasmising: 13 or 14 March 201
sounds good. Could someone chuck me their mobile phone number via PM? I had Megan's, but I've changed phones and lost them all (still got the same phone no, but my address book didn't carry over).

Well... crap. I was just doing a last-minute double-check of the train times, I find out there's trackwork on the line. And I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let me take the bike on the replacement buses... If only I'd checked it earlier I'd've been able to figure something out... but, it seems, not. Looks like I'm going to have to sit this one out

And here lies one of my issues with public transport. You'd normally be able to take a bike on a train, so the replacement transit should allow for such eventualities.phlip wrote:Well... crap. Ah, we were wondering why you didn't turn up Phlip
Anyway, was a good day. We ended up starting off from Circular Quay an hour late, got a bus to Town Hall and had an awesome lunch at Mamma's Kitchen, then went to Hyde Park for wine tasting! Which was pretty cool. And we found a few awesome varieties of wine.
So, was a fairly short day, but sweet, and it was good to catch up with forumites again
