UK meet?

Postby electoralfraud » Sat Apr 28, 2007 12:57 am UTC

So is there any chance of this UK meet going ahead? I've just been refunded my £11,670569.96 from a 419 scam. Ain't like I'm going on holiday this year; I'm spending every penny on drugs, hookers and polar bears (best not ask).

(And you will know me by the trail of dead seals up the m4).

Hell, if my tutor can go for dinner in oklahoma for an evening (WTF!?), missing out on teaching us requirements for the year. Guess I can go to wherever for a few drinks in the summer.

What was that? My academic future? Guess that was mortgaged for someone else's tenure, a couple of bottles of good claret, some rib-eyes and a few glasses of brandy.

Will talk philosophy for coins/food/kudos/academic credit.

You gave a scammer eleven and a half million dollars?
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold,
But if you lose, the devil gets your sould!

No, that would be silly. He gave him eleven and a half million pounds.

No, I gave them 1484639363 Naira and recovered the money under a 914 code via the Nigerian Diplomatic Service. Hell, it was just a drop in the ocean to me, I was glad of the opportunity.

I'm not in the UK, so feel free to ignore this.

But I do think it's essential that, if alternative meetups are happening for people who can't get to Boston, the location still needs to be determined by the original comic.

So first you've got to figure out an interpretation under which the coordinates in said comic point to a specific location in the UK.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

We've discussed this in general for a bit, but with no consensus.

Consensus is somewhere near London, because that is where shit is at.
In my humble opinion ofcourse.
Just sayin, if it's in London, i can prolly attend, if it's not, I prolly can't

If it is London I am gracefully declining, that is the other end of the country and also I just dislike the place. Manchester and Blackpool are where it is at.

London is too far south. :(
Somewhere central like Leeds, or maybe Machester/blackpool that way.
Or York. You all want to go to York :D
I can get pretty much anywhere thanks to trains(don't count on me being on time) I'd just rather not go to London

Not manchester, if you're going that way come to Leeds. We're on the right side of the Pennines.

Blackpool pleasure beach has rollercoasters with no bar at all. Best yet for the photo. Except there is no photo spot. Hmm, position someone with a camera.

OK; heres an idea. Would people be up for seeing a few live bands in Hull? It seems like it'd be as much of a mission for everyone who has shown interest (well, give or take..erk). Two London bands and a Northern band or one London Band and two Northern bands. I'm not talking about under-specced bands here; rather ones who have played with some of the better UK bands of recent years. Maybe Cardboard Radio from the North... a possibility...

I don't know if it'd be the uni complex or not; but somewhere in/around Hull. The yanks might have the co-ordinates, but we'd have live music (and I believe the longest student bar in the United Kingdom). I don't know about Leeds or elsewhere, but if things actually come together, if there is demand I can maybe try and get the bands for elsewhere.

obv. free entry for all xkcd members.

http://www.myspace.com/dakarrally

http://www.myspace.com/cardboardradio

http://www.myspace.com/fatels

http://www.myspace.com/thebleeps

I dunno; more where those have come from. At least two of those have been on BBC Radio 1 and 6.]

Oh, and for comic value:

http://www.myspace.com/theeunstrung for free as long as we can buy crack for ben bailey.

Also London is good, but I'm not too fussed now

I like the blackpool idea. And it agrees with the comic. Although leeds is closer to me. I'd need a feasible excuse to go to Blackpool...

Actually we have the longest bar in the UK. Europe as well I think.

Blackpool sounds cool actually. Hitting the rollercoasters, playing some videogames in the arcades and drinking whiskey wrapped in brwon paper bags on the pier.

If you guys are up for it the bands still stand. I could definately get Dakar Rally and The Bleeps to play somewhere in Blackpool/Leeds if you give me a date for it.

Wow! Europe as well! thats pretty awesome eh?

I've heard the Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow referred to as the longest bar in the UK. Actually, just about every town in the country seems to sport a pub claiming to have the longest bar in the country.

If the Old Bar isn't the longest, then it definitely has the highest length:staff ratio :(.

No, you dont, it is here in Guernsey along side the closest pub to a church in the world and we consume 1/3rd of the UK's alcohol :D

Are longest "permenant" bar is for times the length of a bowling ally lane and our closest pub to a church is 6cm's

In fact, all come to guernsey for the meet! The plane tickets are about £45 and will cost the same for anyone in the UK.

I thought I'd bump this thread to see if there is going to be a UK meet-up. It would be a shame to miss out just because we can't agree on a location. I'll also veto London, but other than that I don't really care.

The closest I can come to finding a location related to the comic in the UK is our very own Cambridge.

I am totally up for Blackpool, the b&b's may be a bit full in September, because of the lights, but there's usually some spaces, and if there isn't we can always crash in the bookshop.

Although, thinking on it, my bookshop has no toilet, shower or running water. So that may not be the best of places to stay.

Not to mention that we can all go to Scrooge's. Scrooge's is a pirate-themed winebar that also serves a huge selection of low-priced spirits and lagers.

It is awesome.
