Re: underscore encoding in urls

All of those URL's seem to work for me from PHP. Are you sure that $url contains what you think it does? (Perhaps it's encoded somehow and needs to be decoded.) Also, it looks like LiveJournal treats underscores and hyphens interchangeably (at least, I get the same thing when I replace underscores w...

Re: Youtube changed. Did you notice?

Could this have anything to do with the way they changed buffering? It used to be the case that I could open a video in a tab, go back to doing whatever else and let it buffer completely, then watch the whole thing at once. Now, since a little while ago, it will only buffer a fraction no matter how...

I'm familiar with it as an abbreviation of "aggressive", which doesn't verbify. Not in that context, at least. It's a game term. In that context, it refers to the aggression levels of non-friendly non-player characters. When used as a verb, it basically means to gain their attention, whic...

I agree, it tripped me up too. But he was constrained by the long established "My Hobby:" format, in which the phrase following the colon has to be a gerund (or a gerund-phrase, if that's a thing). Comic #37 doesn't use that format, though. Or 53 or (relevant) 60 . And possibly some others.

Good data on cat vs. cow fights is hard (for me) to find (quickly).
(Actual title of this is "Felidae?", but that filename was rejected by the forum software for some reason.)

This is what I thought when I first read UV (1469)
uv-fire.png
...I don't know that UV light would actually do that. Alt. title text: "It's only when you look at an ant through a magnifying glass on a sunny day that you realize how often they burst into flames"—wraith's signature, and apparently from Harry Hill. Alt. alt. title text: ...wait, shined? shone? shinnen? shane? did shine?

This is also secretly where the name "xkcd" came from (18 points!).
