Re: public misconceptions

Another one is that Rutherford didn't technically "split the atom" as in slice an atom in half. That is apparently what both my parents think happened... I remember watching this awful movie at my grandma's house one time about a young Einstein. He split a "beer atom" with a chi...

You should enlighten them so they won't have any misconceptions about ester

Re: Should I start taking ADD meds?

In my opinion as long as it's not adversely affecting your grades and such, there isn't much of a problem. Most people I know do have trouble studying for long terms, so they take a 10 min break or something at regular intervals. I also don't recommend those 5 hr energy shots or anything. At least f...

Re: Favorite Song

It's hard to pick, but possibly Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It's just a good song, I love the sound to it, and it's lyrics remind me that there's more to life than we often times remember in the hustle and bustle.

Re: Has anyone read the Bourne series?

I tried reading them one summer after Identity came out in theaters. I don't know if it was because I was distracted at the beach or not, but I just found the whole way the book was....worded(?) to be hard to follow through and stay on point. If memory serves correct I recall that it had loads of de...

Re: Teachers that cannot teach

I had a Calculus professor (from 7pm to 8:40pm, already a fun time for math) who was probably somewhere between 55-65. He actually looked a little like Einstein. But every class, he would come in, start writing equations on the board or start a proof, and then start erasing it a minute later when he...

Re: Heroes! (No spoiler tags for episodes already aired in US)

I'm still waiting for Samuel to do something wicked cool. I mean ok, he's done some big things, but the way they hype it up in the previews and such, he better do something major at the end of the season. And where is Surresh these days?

And yes, wicked cool is a unit of measurement. :)

Re: public misconceptions

One that's half true but still annoying is that all engineering majors are pretenious, condescending people. My major alone has a few, but everyone recognizes them as such.

Re: Which is worse?

In my opinion philosophers attempting to do physics are worse than physicists trying to do philosophy. As some of you have already said, while a physicist may not word his arguments as well and they may not grasp the importance of the philosophical question, I feel like if you're willing to think ab...

Re: Hacking the CIA?

General rule: Anyone who claims to be a hacker, especially in "retaliation" against people, isn't a hacker. They are, however, a liar. I may be misinformed or something, or maybe he was just using the more public term, but I was under the impression that people that actually do "hack...

Re: Hacking the CIA?

People who are able to hack into the CIA don't talk about it ; either they actually do it, and know enough to keep quiet, or (more likely) they know enough not to do it, and not to talk about it either. That's my basic belief as well. The vast majority of people that claim to have great expertise o...

Hacking the CIA?

While hanging around the university commons at my school, I overheard a guy talking about how he was going to retaliate against a group of people by hacking into their accounts and whatnot. He went on to describe to his friend how he had a Masters in Computer Science (I think at least) and that when...
