Re: Thoughts for ships

Art in general is like that (and come to think of it, so is science). It's a deep, deep game that can keep you fascinated for a lifetime.

Re: Post your boat race.

Every warrior princess (and prince, and badass in general) has to have their version of curling into a ball and crying now and then. It's one way we refill our reserves of badassness.

Re: Post your boat race.

The shirt in the old pic made it look like you were holding a keytar, which would have been awesome.

The new pic makes you look like a warrior princess who takes no shit, which is also awesome.

Re: Cooking disasters

So apparently gingerbread flavour "Cake in a Mug" mixes are not designed to be baked in hockey-puck-sized foil pans in a toaster oven at 350F for nine minutes. I added an extra tablespoon of water because the batter wasn't getting thoroughly dampened, but that was also probably not how it ...

The places where it's worst might be the places where women are most afraid of speaking up. And where the power imbalance is the greatest. You go public with what happened to you (and every other woman who went through that system) and suddenly you're unhirable -- because the people doing the hirin...

I hated bell peppers, and hot peppers, when I was a kid. Learned to love them as a young adult. Allergic to them as an old fart.

I'm left with ... broccoli? It'll do. I much prefer the stems to the flowers these days. (Crisp and juicy > rubbery and mealy.)

Re: Is meditation just relaxation?

Don't confuse meditation practise with "enlightenment". Depending on who you ask, enlightenment is an entire shift in one's worldview, one that declares normal daily experience to be an illusion. Full spiritual enlightenment is very difficult to accomplish for any length of time. Most seek...

Part of it is simply relaxation, yes. While you're focused on your breath, you aren't ruminating on bills or family fights. There is some evidence that training your concentration can be more broadly helpful. Here's a decent layman's article about it: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-me...

One day I intend to make a cardamom pistachio cream dessert of sorts. Probably pudding or mousse. I had something like it at an Indian restaurant and it was bloody fantastic, though terribly sweet. It was meant to be interleaved with bites of hot curry which was a delightful way to eat it. I can't c...

Sounds blended to me. Some South African bits, some American midwestish. There's almost a bit of English Quebecker in the way he enunciates things, but that's probably not where it comes from.

However, I also kinda suck at accents.

The best I got from one of my pictures was a lens flare that showed a bite out of the sun. The main pic was (more or less as expected) just a sun washout. Also, it cooled off a bit outside and got slightly dim, like the forest fire smoke was back. It's coming back to full brightness now. Apparently ...

Dick Gregory <> Jerry Lewis. This is why I need [more|fewer] drugs.
