Re: Questions For The World

How common is it for a regular school student to write? I mean, not write a composition for literature class, or an application form, or notes to self, but write creatively, like poems, or stories or novels... It was fairly common throughout school as I grew up, both in Canada and the US (Seattle, ...

Re: Questions For The World

Colds are viruses (virii?). All you can do for a virus is make the body comfortable while the immune system does its thing. Cold or hot foods don't make much difference, unless they stress the body somehow -- ice cream while sitting in a cold bath would be unhelpful. Hot tea while sitting in a too-h...

Re: Pre-Language thought

Children seem to learn in terms of "rules": when you let go of something, it falls. They probably don't form a concept as sophisticated as gravity, but it's a good-enough rule that they don't really need to. Reminds me of a clip I saw of a child watching the mother blow bubbles. The child ...

Re: Boy Thread: All the good names were taken

Question for the boys: do you play with your junk in non-sexual ways? If I'm bored while trying to fall asleep, for example, I sometimes play with my boobs -- wiggle them around a bit, bang them together, whatever. (Then again, I also play with my hands and any other convenient body part, until I'm ...

Yes, I often literally hear the word "tree" in my head when I look at a tree. (I also see the word "tree" in my head when I think the word, part of why I can spell most things correctly.) The word-sound follows the mental concept by a second or so, maybe less. They're not simulta...

Re: Questions For The World

In Canada, there's a bit of the gay marriage/abortion/creationism thing going on, mostly in Alberta I think. (We like to think of Alberta as Canada's Texas. Oil money, pickup trucks, and all the righteous-making politicians that go with them. ) Most city people across Canada are fine with gay...

Not being a mathematician/physicist/anything other than an Arts grad, I can't calculate the speed at which the end of the plank would be moving.
