Okay, let's say "Anglo-Saxon-only" instead of "US-only".

(Although I do consider the UK to be 51st state. Not sure about AU though, haven't spent enough time there.)

Interesting. I would definitely use clann in this situation, rather than muintir (though that said, I doubt that I would ever really use muintir, maybe it is not from my dialect? Just sounds wrong). The sentence they had posted was "Do you know of a family that speaks German?" which is wha...

Re: Partially Wind-Powered Cars?

Now, if you have such a strong tailwind that air is moving backwards over the car, this would work, but it would be more efficient to simply have a sail you could deploy in that situation. But I usually don't drive in 75mph winds. In theory, it can work with any wind, even from the front. That work...

We give talks every Wednesday about the size of the universe in our university, and ocasionally have kids in. There is something strange but oddly satisfying when you see a child go out with that crazy look of "I'm not actually at the center of the universe and I'm tiny" in their eyes.

Frankly, I'm surprised anyone bothers going out to shop on Black Friday anymore. If you can get online, you can get stuff cheaper and without the crowds. "teaching is pointless compared to finding food so you can survive another day". I don't see why you assume this. Teaching people to read doesn't take too long, an hour or so every day is enough to do it. And you don't actually need a lot of reading matierial, people used to learn to read...

A woman who wants an abortion has no obligation to state why she's getting it. This means that the doctor has no way of knowing whether she's pregnant due to having had consensual unprotected sex or due to having been raped. True. so we shouldn't ever need to talk about how the woman got pregnant (...
