Re: White House to Hold Annual Science Fair

What a giant leap in the wrong direction. The massive resources used to fund a feel-good exhibition of the kids who didn't need help in science in the first place could be used to hire a hundred new teachers. This is almost as useless as the Chinese Olympic training schools. Its true that the kids ...

Re: FOR THE XKCD-BAND: ch00n ideas

4 is definitely the best. It has a nice groove and seems easy to develop further. 5 sounds like it would be really cool, and is asking for full instrumentation. I agree with 1 having awesome nice chords, but I didn't really like the melody on top.

Re: xkcd Internet Band--Now Organizing (newcomers still welcome)

lets do it in the key of F. one flat. easy for brass instruments and woodwinds--do woodwinds go in non-C keys? Concert F is G for clarinet/tenor sax, and D for alto/bari sax, so fine. Generally for woodwinds, I find sharp keys easier, but a good rule is no more than two or three sharps or flats top...

Re: xkcd Internet Band--Seeking any (and I mean ANY) instruments

I'd certainly love to start experimenting with stuff, but to start off, as a sort proof of concept, we should start with simple song and structure. I agree that if we don't get a drummer, we have some sort of drum machine. With the potential for so many different instruments, I don't think we can af...

Well this isn't really a disaster, but it was a big screw up on my part. I set out to a map with a lava tube because I'd never really played with it that much and wanted to mess around. Unfortunately, it turns out the map was the most boring thing EVER! Completely flat with hardly any real interest...

I'm not a great songwriter, but I would love to contribute clarinet or alto sax parts. I've played clarinet for 7 years and alto for 5, and would say I play at a lower college (non-music major) level.

Re: Beer bot

I think the easiest way would be to have a dispenser that always brings a beer to the front (something like this ?). Then, all you have to do is go to where the dispenser is, and grab from the tray. Then I think the robot could have a grid thing (sorta like this but horizontal?) that it puts the bee...

It didn't really make me appreciate it more, or work harder, or any of that. I already had that strong interest before I started reading xkcd. It really just appealed TO my appreciation of math and science, and that strengthened my interest in xkcd. So the other way around really.
