Here's the House Judiciary Committee's official response. It goes over pretty much all of the arguments as to why this is a terrible thing and makes specific demands of the executive branch. https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/democrats.judiciary.house.gov/files/documents/National%20Emergency%20Letter...

Most of those seem to be primarily be about blocking assets to foreign nationals. I'm not sure specifically why that requires emergency action, but apparently it's a thing. I think the difference here is that Trump would be using the state of emergency specifically to subvert the legislative proces...

In my experience, it's normal enough to be taught the Bohr model of the atom in grade school and middle school and then a quantum mechanical model of the atom in high school. (As an aside, I typically see folks continue to refer to the Bohr model of the atom + neutrons as the Bohr model rather than ...

B99 pyp was underused: wam only asked for one character (which I gave him!) and plytho asked from a choice of 3, only two of which were in the game, so he randomly got one of the other two. That said, because the show has 9 "main characters", when Mark signed up we needed to think...

I've also heard that the norm in the US is for time off due to ill health coming from your vacation time. Is that true? Over here, that's against the law. Yeah, while I've worked places that keep them in separate pools, it's pretty normal here in the States to just have one "Personal Time Off&...

But the NATO spending targets, in general...sure. I have no objection whatsoever to holding folks to their pledged level. It'd be nice if the US carried a bit less of the NATO spending burden. I feel like the smart move on the Republican's side at this point would be to withdraw Kavanaugh's nomination and try to get Amy Coney Barrett confirmed as quickly as possible. Of course, that would require Trump's ego being able to deal with a strategic "loss".

An accusation isn't evidence. We don't even have testimony, let alone evidence. Axing someone's job on the basis of an accusation without testimony seems contrary to any sort of standards of evidence, and we have these for good reason. Without that, pretty much anybody could toss accusations at any...

In order to reduce the amount of coins you have, take out 9 ¢ to pay the last digit. (4 ¢ might be a good value, too.) If you can't do that, take out one dollar / euro in {10,20,25,50}-¢-pieces. Pay the last two digits using that (possibly slightly more). If you can't do that, Europeans need to con...
