Re: 1078: "Knights"

I believe this is the reference here. I had to look it up myself, too.

Re: The 'I miss orchestra' support group.

I felt really bad about not doing any concert ensembles my first semester of college. I had done marching band, but those of you who have played in both concert and marching bands know how totally different they can be. I just didn't have time for the university concert band or orchestra rehearsal s...

Re: Learning multiple instruments at once?

So. Back on topic to the OP's question and not getting caught up in likely pointless arguments about what is or isn't music or what is or isn't necessary to make it: I'd say if you've got two to four hours a day, I'd just stick with one instrument. Maybe it's just my background as a wind player, but...

Re: Favorite Time Signatures

Personally I like the type of 9/8 that features heavily in Blue Rondo a la Turk, by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Typically, 9/8 is divided as 3+3+3/8, but this song divides it as 2+2+2+3/8 for three successive measures and then 3+3+3/8 for the last measure. Apparently, 2+2+2+3/8 is a fairly common deal...

Re: Reason

You can ReWire pretty much any DAW into any other DAW these days, so I wouldn't really call that much of a special functionality of Reason. And I still think that the lack of VST support pretty much cripples Reason from being a very complete package. Yes, in terms of really crazy synthesis, you can ...

Re: Reason

Hardly an expert with Reason, but I can tell from my experiences with other software that it's a very powerful package. You get some pretty high end and versatile synths in there, plus a couple solid samplers with nice sounds preinstalled from the get go. You can get a lot done in it from day one wi...

Re: The Xkcd Superelite Marching Band/Drum Corps

3 years high school on clarinet. 1 year of college on alto sax. That's been my first year playing, though, versus something like 9 on clarinet, so I'm a lot better at clarinet than alto, even though I'm starting to like alto more... I can also kind of fudge my way through most of the percussion sect...

Re: If you were a final boss

This one seems like good fun :D Name: Alastair, Lord of Steel Pre-battle quote: Uh... Dialogue isn't really my strong point, but he'd probably say something involving how pathetic the attempts of the protagonists to defeat him would be, invincible and growing stronger, defeat inevitable, etc. You kn...

Re: What Makes A Good Song (for you)?

Okay. I'm gonna be a lamer here and contradict what seems to be the general opinion in this topic by saying that I very much enjoy spectacular technical displays and bands that incorporate solos into almost every song. To me, part of being a musician is being not just creative, but proficient at you...

Re: What instrument do you own?

I've got: ⋅ Jupiter Bb Clarinet. Capital Edition or some junk. ⋅ Armstrong (I could have sworn that was a flute company...) Alto Sax ⋅ Casio WK-3300 keyboard workstation. For a Casio, it's surprisingly good. I've got a serious case of gear acquisition syndrome, lately, ...

Re: What's Your Major!?!?!

I'm studying for my BS in Physical Sciences, which, the way I'm handling my concentrations, will likely end up more like a materials science/engineering major than anything. Taking on a number of biology courses to satisfy pre-medicine requirements, though I'm honestly not feeling them so much, late...

Re: "Self-Description" Discussion

The issue with that, however, is that your calculator can't actually deal with an infinite series. Consider your first example: if you add just the right number of 9's, then, yes, the calculator will return 1 for the value. Of course, get a more powerful calculator, and that won't happen. The issue ...

Re: "Not Really Into Pokemon" Discussion.

The franchise on the whole was best in the GSC-generation, I think, but the games only improve as they release more Pokemon to catch. It's a real pity I don't have a DS or I'd still be playing Pearl right now...

Re: Rap Battle Thread!

Yo, SiriusBeatz, packing the heat once again. Stepping up to the mic, so move your feet quick, my friend. Spittin' automatically, I'm back from my sabbatical My rhymes are sick - carcinogenic like free radicals. Sucker MCs trying to rock my spot? I'll pop and lock, then knock a clown round the block...

Greenwich Mean Rhyme, stepping on the scene like He's my equal 'cause he spits in his free time While I spit lines that split time and hit minds Like trip mines. Yeah, trick, you know I've got to get mine. Although it's nice to see an MC try to fight with me, He's bitin' me. Then he tries inviting m...

Calling me a wannabe? Trick, you ain't got spit on me. Flow's so immature, man, you're nothing but a kid to me. Honestly, ain't hard to see you're lyrically in poverty. This economy of sick rhymes is my monopoly. I don't have to try to be a G; it comes so naturally 'Cause actually, my superiority is...

Check it. They call me Sirius, and y'all must be delirious To seriously think that you can hear me with your weariness. My rhymes are straight deleterious, and you're so wack It's like you stepped out the Age of A-Queer-ius. Yes, I am so lyrical; my flow is straight empirical. Dropping science on yo...
