Re: 2005: "Attention Span"

The most dramatic example of "thicker than it is wide": https://img.labnol.org/di/wikipedia-book.jpg Yes, that is apparently a real book , though I assumed it was a photoshop job when I first saw it. I don't know what kind of binding it has, but I'd guess it's literally impossible to read.

Re: Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality

Also, is there any word on what's taking the official HPMOR epilog so long? It might still be in the works, eventually. I've taken some stabs at rewriting the epilogue, but those stabs didn't go smoothly and weren't fun, and that means I need a large chunk of solid undistracted writing time to fix ...

Re: 1989: "IMHO"

And the answer to "The Big One":  most modern style guides now call for only one space.  However, they are wrong, each and every one of them.  It's two spaces, just like God — a/k/a the nun who was my high school typing teacher — intended. Coincidentally, just today I was reading Matthew ...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Hi everyone, I'm a friend of Fred. I've been lurking at these boards irregularly since, oh, 2010 or so, when I was in college for the first time. I consider myself an aspiring rationalist, but I don't expect ever to be really good at it. I don't smoke or own any cats. I may not be posting too often,...

Re: 1935: "2018"

I find it funny that you can spend a couple thousand years hashing out the most accurate calendar in human history, and people still complain - some that it's not accurate enough and others that it's too accurate and makes them think too much.

Re: 0345: "1337: Part 5"

This digital music thing will probably reach its endgame sometime in the next decade are so. These are very exciting times. So I'd just like to point out that it's been a decade since 0345 was originally posted. Is DRM at an endgame? Well, in terms of music DRM, the right side won . iTunes stopped ...

Re: 1909:"Digital Resource Lifespan"

First of all, I found there no justification for your "Not true". Granted, that writing style didn't encourage me to try very hard... ...but still, mentioning that one possibly Christian guy paid attention to Archimedes in the 5th century (or whenever, I'm not going to reopen it), and ano...
