Complaint about envelope-pushing moves and call for more strict enforcement of rules.

Utterly idiotic move, that sets everyone (including the poster) back.

Re: 1816: "Mispronunciation"

For the longest time I'd heard used this word Fe-CEE-shus which I never had to spell. Later I came across the word facetious in writing, which of course should be pronounced as though describing a gem with many facets. It took quite a while for me to figure out that they were the same word. P.s. I ...

That's also a problem for german speakers, due to the trigraph 'sch'.

That reminds me of how me and all my siblings had trouble with the spelling of "school" after starting German. Somehow that "sch" started looking out of place in an English word.

Another one: I know that hyperbole is not supposed to rhyme with Super Bowl , but I still often pronounce it that way in my head. Strangely enough, I just now learned hyperbole (exaggeration) and hyperbola (conic section) are in fact two words, and not one word with two meanings. At least they both...

When you have a thought, do you tend to think it in words and sentences? : Mostly, although sometimes they become very visual. Well, there is an adequate reason, namely that it isn't pronounced like "pronounce+iation". The vowel changes to a short 'u' and is spelled as such. Well, shit. Then I've been mispronouncing one of them all this time. Although the inconsistency is still bugging me. If other words don't ch...

Yeah, welcome to the club, pal. I never know what to make of words like "tier", "caveat" and "inventory". Why pronounce them as tear, cavee-at, inVENtory, rather than tyre, caf-feet, INventory? Because the spelling of English words is a mess. I mean there's the word &qu...

I point out, that the antilead in the water and the lead in the filter annihilate one another, releasing tremendous amounts of energy in the process. As dictated by the Wile E. Coyote principle, this causes the reaction to take place.

I give this flag three stars. Three out of HOW MANY!? Whizbang is from the USA, so three out of fifty, apparently. Pretty harsh. It would be better to be rated a three by someone from Australia (3/6) or Micronesia (3/4). Still better than Morocco; a rating of three out of a possible one is hard to ...
