They still roll damage, I also greatly encourage them to play "organic" attacks (CHOP OF HIS ARM!) and very libarly apply laws of reality with game laws (he has a axe, totally gonna work) to add a faux-logic to it and more of a "what would I do with what i have" idea for the play...

Quests would be fun, maybe directly rewarded with new items or "research points - any new part costs research points and you can pick it from a list - or simply improve a part you have (like fuel storage cap +0.5 or weight -0.1)

I play D&D, very homebrew. Boils down to just: Make your char. Play If asked for a roll, roll the skill and the number next to it on your sheet. The end. I do all the dc, modifiers (high ground, small creature, good/bad light) and so on on my end. Look at there roles, just describe what happens ...

Both go and find a wife, make a family, have kids, then divorce, marry each other, united there capital, fake there own death - there wills say to give there children (Alfreds get silver) the cash, then show up and grab the cash from the kids.

Veigar might be a mana hungry, squishy midget but dear god, being able to throw out a nice 2000 dmg combo and only getting stronger as the game goes along. Had some good games with him, the only thing really annoying me is (br)olaf, such a beast...

While there certainly is a great amount of fault on the parents hands (Even if they are lighting fast to jump to excuses and act innocent/are ignorant) one could also point out that to a part, they simply don't know any better and life in a society that supports ignorance.
