Re: Airbender and Korra - Shyamalan's Masterpiece Animated

We approached the network and while they were supportive there was a limit to how far we could go with it, as just about every article I read accurately deduced.

OK, so it was executive censorship. I take it back.

Re: Airbender and Korra - Shyamalan's Masterpiece Animated

If anything I'm disappointing they weren't more blunt about it, and ended the series with them actually kissing. I agree. The show is blunt about nearly every character relation. Then, for the one single event that needed bluntness, they go for the subtlety/ambiguity that has been sorely missing in...

Re: Airbender and Korra - Shyamalan's Masterpiece Animated

I think I just have a soft spot for Bolin. He and Asami are the two 'good dudes' in the series that I feel keep their heads up and manage to do the right thing, instead of flailing like pissy teenagers. I'm not sure if I agree about Bolin, at least not without a discussion. He's most certainly supp...

Re: Airbender and Korra - Shyamalan's Masterpiece Animated

I am deeply, thoroughly impressed by the three final episodes. This has felt like a completely different show from season 1 and 2, and even the bulk of season 3. This is the maturity we should have had from the start. This is what Korra should be like.

K3.10 I'm pretty sure the Earth Queen's dead. The episode title is "Long Live the Queen". If it's not meant to be ironic, it doesn't really fit with what happened. They've used euphemisms before, like saying "end you" instead of "kill you". Zaheer s...

Dumbing of Age - college webcomic, highly accessible, updates every day.

Stand Still, Stay Silent - Scandinavia-centric, post-apocalyptic. Astounding art and nearly daily updates. Also check out the artist's tiny two-year project of 556 pages, A Redtail's dream.

Re: Airbender and Korra - Shyamalan's Masterpiece Animated

Episodes 4 and 5: "meh" and "yeah!" 4 is fairly straightforward, making it feel like some of the duller parts of season 1 - it's just stuff being moved around, without any significant or unpredictable character story. But I did like how the season continues to show the human side...

Introductory episodes to a new season! And, again, I'm joyfully optimistic about what we are about to be served, and I'm waiting for the rest of the season to shoot me down again. The consensus on BoardGameGeek is that Halikarnassos B is the strongest Wonder/side from the base game. If you're going heavy resources, then other players should be doing something with those picks that gives them at least as much of an advantage - otherwise, they're playing badly. What it sounds ...

7 Wonders works very well for out game night setup: it can be played with anything from 3 to 7 players, and fairly consistently takes about an hour to play, regardless of number of players. I'm not sure how balanced the wonders are (Halikarnassos seems very powerful), but it's certainly fun, with j...

Man, that final was almost as bad as the first season's. I thought it was worse. The finale of Season 1 just kind of worked until the scenes at the South Pole, where all the sacrifices were reversed. What really cemented it for me was the resolution of the Eska/Bolin subplot. One thing is how the w...

Carefully more optimistic again now, after episode 5. Lots of stuff happening in one episode indicating efficient storytelling, which we haven't had much of in either season.
