Re: Today You Learned

Today I learned that I was naive to trust upper management when they said "We have it under control".

I'm not paid enough to deal with the "engineering" that they try to do themselves.

"any" During my yr12 english exam I wrote down "eny". I thought to myself "That doesn't look write ", and then proceeded to write "eny" again, whilst sounding out each letter. I did this three times before I gave up and moved on. . And also wtf is up with the...

Re: Why do some drinks come with Umbrellas?

My ex SO convinced me they were to be carefully horded so that over the course of an evening one can keep track of just how much one has consumed. Which seems to be rather at odds with the fact that not all drinks come with them... Now that I'm sober her arguement doesn't make nearly as much sense. ...

I have to say when I was younger "The Giver" did it for me...

Don't know why... it was just so sad to see someone astrocized because he could see the beauty and the ugliness of life.

Well folks, the Father is at it again. His new laptop has been in use for the past few weeks and he's all excited until last night. It shut off. In the middle of him typing. He hasn't used it much... It must be broken... Cue paniced phonecall. "Hi, Dad." "My computer died. Lik...

Re: Woman thread - Is it as good for you as it is for me?

I have astigmatism, not too bad but it's quite a difference if I take off the windows I carry around with me. The worst part about it has to be when the eye-doc first looked at me, and said (this is almost verbatim) "You know, I'm pretty sure if you didn't have astimatism, you'd have just about...

I read the comic for about a year before I even discovered the forums and store. It took almost another year of stalking the forums and checking to be sure that Belial always wore a hat to work up the courage to actually post.

I guess I'm still mostly a lurker.

Re: Help with an XP repair

It's possible that you have to specify boot from ATAPI instead of IDE, to get a boot from CD-ROM. I've had bioses that were all like that and shit. Thanks Kabann, after I played around a little bit this ended up being exactly what I needed to do. Of course it was while I was in the middle of the re...

Who else has wonderful stories from helping your friends/parents/family with their technical issues? I'm relatively new to all of this but those little PEBKAC moments are often worth all of the frustration.

Do share the stories at others expense.

Hilarity when giving Help to ones parentals

To start the story let us first say that my father is perhaps the single most inept user of a computer that still manages to turn it on and off I have ever met. He called me this weekend (from across the country) asking for advice about a database program he is learning for work (Foxpro I think?). H...

This is less a course, and more a professor. The course was Vibrations and Controls though. The professor (a** that he was) didn't like the way that the book's author set up the problems. So he took it upon himself to instead completely reverse the orientation of every problem when he began to solve...

High: I finally convinced 7 of the 8 people in Finance that we need the cut machine I've been trying to order.

Low: The 8 #%)* person shot it down, cause it would take 6 months for the machine to pay for itself.

I hate the red tape monster.
