Re: Georges Melies comic!

I completed The sea is stormy tonight. It might be the first thing I've done that has an actual beginning, middle and end. I'd love any feedback on it, positive or negative! http://robertbrudos.webs.com/the-sea-is-stormy-tonight

New comic up at website

My new daily comic is up at http://robertbrudos.webs.com/the-sea-is-stormy-tonight. I think I'm gonna keep this page as a blog and move my comics over to the new website, it's just more visually suited to how they look.

(p.s. "daily" means for twenty days)

Mantle, Daughter of Van Helsing

The idea was to capture that weird feel of fly-by-night Golden Age comics, where not much was explained, the whole thing is kind of creepy and intense even though the art is amateurish, and the character is never seen again after one issue. Like one of the 10,000 Batman ripoffs in the 1940s who kill...

Hey, thanks everyone! Kewangji: I am, I did a prologue that's up on the site now, and I plan to do more. rhomboidal: "Dreamlike" is exactly what I was going for, and "woodcut" is an added bonus. Age of Fable: Technically I shouldn't use title cards at all, it should all just be s...

Re: more Christian Comic Books

Ooh! Also, Mike Allred's Madman. It's not totally explicit but Allred is a very religious person and the subtext of Madman is very much about the importance of morality, the reality of God, consequences of ideas and stuff like that. The ending of the story was pure Mormon, too. I don't think you'd p...

Re: "The Denial of Death", by Ernest Becker

Becker didn't provide any simple answers, I think, because he was subtly pushing for a Kierkegaardian Christianity. I love that book but the implication behind "science can't provide the answers" was definitely "so we need a Leap of Faith".

This is great that you're doing this! This is the first installment of my comic book (the Stumbleupon button is at the bottom of the post). I'm gonna spread the stumble love to the earlier posts too! http://georgesmeliescomic.wordpress.com/2011/04/15/13/#more-13

Well if there isn't already a Fables discussion here there damn well should be. Willingham is a tough, challenging writer and the book is just brilliant.

Re: The Unwritten

An absolutely perfect comic book. The use of multimedia arguments as narrative (a la Dark Knight Returns), the horror elements invading a childish fantasy world, and really well-developed main characters. One of the best things I've read in a very long time!

Re: How's Blankets?

The artwork and panel transitions are breathtaking, some of the best I've ever seen. The story packs a punch, but it's melodramatic and a little immature emotionally. If I was a teenager, it would be my favorite comic ever. As is, it's worth a read.

Re: more Christian Comic Books

Yeah, Doug Tennapel is the way to go, especially Creature Tech (probably his most spiritual work, and very accessible as well). If you want to try his work before you buy it, Ratfist is online for free. I don't know if it's Christian per se , but 1/0 (one divided by zero, Google search it) is a very...

In the Dark Places of Wisdom

Peter Kingsley believes that the orderly, rational character of the ancient Greek philosophers was largely a myth, and that they were actually crazy-ass mystics who meditated. Apparently the whole thing was covered up by Plato. Even if you didn't read In the Dark Places of Wisdom , chime in: let's s...

Re: Boycott all things Orson Scott Card?

OSC is interesting, Ender's Game was such a strongly liberal book (the government demonizes other cultures to start needless wars, people need to resist their inner prejudices, seemingly different peoples need to find common ground and work together). What happened since then? I have to wonder if to...

Raised as a Lutheran, became an atheist, became a Christian again, atheist again... right now I think there is a God who set stuff in motion (and for a reason), but that the Bible was written for a very specific people for a very specific goal. Whatever the truth actually is, I bet it's a lot weirde...

Sometimes I think that in the future, our carnivorous time will seem barbaric in the same way that we think slave-owners were barbaric. Then again, life needs to feed on life in order to survive. I think there are worse positions than "it's okay if you eat/use it, don't cause it unnecessary suf...

Re: Entertaining Yourself in Your Head

I like to take a viewpoint and try to justify it, or if I already have an opinion that I've been trying to justify to myself, work on that. Also, regret. I often try to defend viewpoints that I think are totally "wrong", like a right-wing viewpoint or something. Also, I turn people I know...

The Summer of Katya, by Trevanian. Subtle and heartbreaking. His least action packed novel (most people know him for Shibumi).

Re: San Francisco judge removes circumcision ban from ballot

The act has a greater context of sacrifice and shit, doesn't it? (I'm not Jewish) Yes, there's also a traditional purpose, but as far as its effects as an actual procedure go, we recognize that it's really just cosmetic. Well, a lot of us probably argue that it's beneficial for the baby, but in rea...

The consensus I've heard is that Macs get viruses less frequently, but they're almost IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of when they do happen. Makes sense kinda, Macs are supposed to be user-friendly so they're hard to "crack open and fix" (so to speak).

Georges Melies comic!

Hi all, I've been working on a comic strip based on the movies of silent filmmaker Georges Melies. The idea is that these strips are the films of his that got destroyed. I'd love it if someone could check it out and give feedback!
