Re: Chicago anti-meetups #2.5 (Dec 29) and #3 (summertime)

I'd be up for a meetup on Monday. Ideas on where?

Re: Chicago anti-meetup #3 - summertime, date TBD

I know I've been slated to attend at least one of the past meetups, so it seems only right for me to at least claim I'll be at this one. However, I don't know when I'll be home over the summer yet, so that's a bit problematic. We could always try to organize a mildly impromptu meetup this holiday se...

Re: Childhood crackpot theories

I'm still decently convinced that every person in the world besides me is actually an android. I couldn't quite place who made all of the androids, or why, or where I had come from for that matter (since I'm a real human, duh), but the theory made so much sense! I also once deduced how easy antigrav...

Favorite Scientist?

A friend of mine recently decided she could tell a lot about a person by who their favorite scientist, which we proved to be bunk, but it's an interesting question nonetheless so: Who is your favorite scientist? I came up with some off the more common ones off the top of my head, and I tried to incl...

Some (Presumably) Basic Chemistry Questions

So my knowledge of chemistry has always been somewhat embarrassing. While I consider myself scientifically-minded, I really know almost nothing at all about chemistry. This is why I'm taking an in-depth chemistry course next semester, but that's next semester. I'm curious now. I can't just sit in th...

Re: SUPRIZE MEETUP! In Chicago.

IN LIGHT OF RECENT ZOMBIE-RELATED EVENTS, I may have to withdraw my attendance to this event. Could we possibly reschedule? Our wonderful city decided to have a zombie walk at precisely 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 21st, 2008. There is no way I can miss a zombie walk. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?...

Re: Dragonball... MOVIE?

I am so sexcited. I literally fell over laughing when I first read about this. A Dragonball movie was already bound to be hilarious, but the fact that it's live action is what really cracked me up. The more I read about it, the funnier it starts to sound. This is going to be awesome.

Video Cards for Linux/FreeBSD?

I've been thinking about building another computer this summer, but I am woefully ignorant on the state of video cards now that I don't play too many computer games anymore, and I now have violent physical reactions to using Windows. So I'm wondering on the state of video cards for open source opera...

Re: Ethics question

I'm not weighing really weighing in on the original topic, though for the record, if you know how to do the work, I don't see the problem with cheating to avoid the tedium. The biggest question comes in how do you judge whether or not you know how to do the work. Really, that question is why I don't...

Re: SUPRIZE MEETUP! In Chicago.

I make no guarantees, as it depends on many things, but I will try my hardest to do this. I can't see what would stop me from going, but as it's a couple of months away and I still don't know what I'll be doing in terms of work this summer, I'll leave it at a maybe. I love random outbursts of song, ...

Re: Things you remember watching but can't remember the name of

They dealt with weird topics, like cloning from a transporter machine and other things. It wasn't funny at all, however. I think it might have been called "O, Canada"? EDIT: yeah, that was it, but I can't find any information on it. Anyone else remember it? I saw it a couple of times when...

Re: Bad Movies You Love

Just off the top of my head: - Hostel - I haven't seen the sequel yet, but I remember seeing this with a friend and laughing at the film from start to finish. Some people call me twisted for that, but the movie really is godawful. - Labyrinth - For fantastic times with the 80's, Jim Henson, and Davi...

Fast Food Fight!

Which fast food restaurants do you personally enjoy/abhor, and why? (Guilty pleasure or otherwise) Let me make my own opinion expressly clear: If you do not like Taco Bell, you are nothing short of a godless heathen and should be summarily put to death by nacho cheese pit. Also, to those who live in...

Re: Music to play videogames to

The greatest thing to do is mix and match video game music, especially for contrast. Resident Evil with Super Mario Sunshine music, or vice versa. It doesn't work for all games (Shadow of the Colossus sort of requires its own music), but often the ones with soundtracks that are just mixes of popular...

Re: Most Rockin' Live Albums

Some of these aren't just my favorite live albums, but my favorite albums period by some of these artists. Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison The Bad Plus - Blunt Object Live in Tokyo (I'm not entirely sure it's live, really quiet crowd if it is, but it's still damn good.) ...
