Indexed grammars?

Hello, I'm a CS undergrad. While googling random topics last night, I came across Indexed Grammars, a formalism somewhere in between context sensitive grammars and context free grammars on the Chomsky hierarchy. The idea behind Indexed Grammars is that nonterminals pass stacks of stuff to other nont...

Re: "Forks and Spoons" Discussion

What a bold stance taken by this comic. I thought the blending theory of inheritance was all but discredited. Not necessarily the implication. Spooniness vs. forkiness could be determined by multiple genes, like height. When a really tall guy and a really short girl have a medium-height baby, it's ...

Re: "Restless Leg Syndrome"

I have been taking Seroquel for about four years as an antipsychotic. I usually take the pills right before bed because they have a sedating effect, but sometimes I stay up reading in my bed before I actually fall asleep, and I invariably notice that a little while after taking the pills my legs sta...

All of these he was well-suited to accomplish, because they related directly to his specialty. This is totally why I am planning on majoring in linguistics. I've been noticing a lot lately about how the style of writing contributes to the mood of the story; I love use of archaic or more formal lang...

After reading your question and clicking on letters in an IPA chart I have come to the conclusion that the unvoiced alveolar lateral fricative is really awesome. Unfortunately I have no idea where to put my tongue and how to make the noise.

Also implosives are ...interesting.

Re: "Fuck Grapefruit" Discussion

Two things: Someone should really make an application where you can rate each fruit on a scale of -50 to 50 for each category, and then the application averages everyone's ratings together and rearranges the chart automatically. It would be really interesting to see how that compares to Randall's ch...
