Re: Today I Made:

I've been cooking a fair bit and posting almost not at all. Whoops? I've recently made vegetable and chickpea pot pie, spinach and white bean lasagna, cranberry cinnamon french toast casserole, red lentil dahl, a palak paneer knockoff, stupid amounts of fried rice and probably other things I've forg...

Oh yeah, other Christmas stuff Alex and I made - Alex's mom is from a Ukrainian family and they always have a traditional meal with very similar things. Re: Today I Made:

Yesterday I made myself a peppers and monterey jack quiche. It's fine, but too liquidy - the peppers were very enthusiastic and I put in a lot of them. I should've cooked them first, but was hungry and being lazy. Ah well. It's still tasty, and has plenty of vegetables. :)

Re: Today I Made:

What's in the shallot gravy? Heh, in this case, fakery is made of tapioca flour, spices (both dried and fresh), veggie broth, and I think I put in tamari for color. And then of course I use lots and lots of shallots fried in garlic-infused olive oil. I slice them rather than chop them so they have ...

Re: What does it mean to you to love a band/musician?

For me it isn't nearly as all or nothing as any of that; for example there are bands that I really, really like that have songs or even entire albums that I really don't care for at all. There are bands that I really like that, frankly, are kind of meh live; and there are others that I love to see ...

Re: Today I Made:

I took a baked potato and sliced it and put the slices onto pizza crust. (The other toppings went on top of it.)

It probably wanted some bechamel kind of sauce rather than just garlic-infused olive oil, too, and maybe that would've helped the potato adhere better.

Re: What does it mean to you to love a band/musician?

In fact the most important criterion for me is how important their music is to me and my life. I love REM because they were the first band I ever got into and because their songs are hopelessly entangled with my emotions as a teenager and carry a lot of memories for me. I love Leonard Cohen, becaus...

What does it mean to you to love a band/musician?

So I'm curious, because in talking with other folks about their favorite musicians, sometimes I think people have very different standards for what it means to love a band. Ideas I've seen come up: 1) You love every track on most of their albums, rather than just hits 2) You follow the lives of the ...

What kind of cheese do you use in the Caprese quiche? Do you have to use a low-moisture mozzarella, or does the regular stuff work?
